Doug was pretty awesome.

Would like to see WSCR reach out to #54 to work with OB at some point.

The essence of what Doug did should not be forgotten.

#PASSION

Who drives that show? It would be entertaining listening Brian or OB go "let's go out to cellular Big Daddy."

That was true when he was a player. I also thought he was a bit of a dim bulb. However I have found him to be a much better guest/interview since he's retired. He's actually funny and generally interesting.

54 has potential. He is far enough away from the Bear to be honest when the time calls for it. OB would probably be OK with it as well and that's a short short list.

Urlacher is to big of a star and too rich to do a local radio post game show for what? $600 a show?

No. He would never do it.

Doug had to still work. He loved it. Don't get me wrong. But he also needed a local radio gig.

I would agree with this the times I have heard him on radio nationally.

I suspect Mannelly has the inside track to work with OB at this point.

I think Doug still had a part of Gibsons, as he was a major owner of Sweetwaters with current owner of Gibsons. Between that and some NFL money he got bye is my guess...the WSCR money made life comfortable.

It was once a full time job. He had prime time shows with Norm and Mike North.

The guy had a younger wife and had twins when he was in his 50s. Retired from the NFL in 1979 when they didn't make a shit load of money. He's divorced with kids from that marriage.

His wife is currently working in sales at the SCORE. How many rich guys have their wives working at a radio station's sales department?

Yeah. He needed a local radio job. Don't think I'm stepping out in saying that.

Like bigfan said, he probably wasn't struggling to get by the last few years, it just helped and it was fun work, all things considered.

Jarrett Payton could own the airwaves with a little more attention to his craft. I don't blame him as I'd live the good life under those situations as well.

The very obvious person to pick up the mantle is Jurko. Sure, he was not a Bear but Jurko is really from the same mold as Doug. I don't think Jurko wants to break his back with weekend shows.

The truth is Doug and OB were kind of a once in a lifetime find. Doug was not very good as a regular host. The Bear and the Bull is in the top 5 worst shows the Score has presented...as was the Telander Show...and the North/Buffone show was nothing great. Doug found his niche, or his niche found him and he was excellent.

The truth is, the current Score wouldn't give a guy like Doug a chance. People got angry at Beardown but he would not be acceptable to those who think they make the station smarter.

I agree completely. Look at Dan Hampton. He has the meatball passion, the funny malaprops, and the Bears pedigree that Doug had, but Hampton didn't get in on the ground floor and never fit in. Trying to replicate Doug & OB with anyone else isn't going to work.

By the way, I didn't say it immediately because it seemed so morbid, but I really thought for all the world that OB would go first.
