well neither displayed a rational viewpoint. had CH been right, i can pretty much guess what threads would've been created instead.

it seems like it took 3 championships for blackhawks fans around me to notice. no fireworks the last 2 stanley cups where i live. and the crease is still lining their tee shirts. i guess NOW it's a hockey town.

Thanks Gays!

As I have said all year, the Hawks have the best team, best roster, & the best coach in the NHL. The Hawks will be the favorites to win the Stanley cup for many years to come. The youth movement next year is going to be great!

They don't have the best coach. Toronto does.

If you're looking forward to next season already, the oddsmakers at Bovada offered their first glimpse at next year's Stanley Cup contenders. It's far too early to have a really good handle on things as teams' rosters will change over the next few weeks thanks to free agency, trades and the NHL Draft, but it's always fun to get a glimpse into the crystal ball.

The Chicago Blackhawks, Stanley Cup champions in 2010 and 2013, are favored to claim a third Stanley Cup in six years in 2015 at 15/2 odds. Perhaps the Blackhawks and Kings will pass the Stanley Cup back and forth a few times before the rest of the teams get a good crack at it.

As early as it is, here is a quick look at the top 10 via Bovada:

1. Chicago Blackhawks: 15/2
2. Boston Bruins: 8/1
3. Pittsburgh Penguins: 9/1
4. Los Angeles Kings: 10/1
5. St. Louis Blues: 10/1
6. Anaheim Ducks: 14/1
7. San Jose Sharks: 14/1
8. Colorado Avalanche: 18/1
9. Minnesota Wild: 18/1
10. New York Rangers: 18/1

Every year, in both Donspiracy's contest here, and my yahoo nfl pickem, SH picks favorites almost exclusively. He is near the bottom of the standings every year, except 2013, where an abnormal number of favorites covered.

How many would Babcock have with this roster? Look at some of the recent Red Wings teams, and the injuries they have endured. He still got those teams into the playoffs anyway. There is a reason why Babcock coaches the Canadian team in the Olympics. There is a reason why there was a bidding war for his services, with Toronto throwing $50 million at him.

I am not trying to dis Q, he is obviously a great coach. The notion than Q is better, is not shared outside of Chicago. Ask the hardcore hockey guys like Curious Hair, Zawaski, or Rozner.

If there was a coach draft, every GM in the NHL would take Babcock with the first pick. He is the Belichick of the NHL.

I wonder how many non-Hawks games Scorehead has watched during the last six years. My guess is not many. This certainly wouldn't be the first time that he has a strong, yet uninformed opinion.

I am not trying to dis Babcock either. But I think there is an argument to be made for Q and it is not just in Chicago.

Babcock is the best active coach in the NHL, but let's be real: there are plenty of Red Wings fans who were just as tired of his crap as we get with Quenneville's. It's really just a universal truth of today's NHL coaching that you will overplay old plugs and piss off all the dorks who obsess over young players. Faults aside, it's an elite coach who got a lot out of Detroit's diminishing returns. That said, unless Babcock presides over a dynasty in Toronto, Quenneville will be remembered in higher regard between his dynasty in Chicago and his very good years in St. Louis (he had a couple decent years in Denver too that no one really talks about).

In Donspiracy's contest for 2014, Scorehead made 104 picks. 78 were favorites, 24 were underdogs, and 2 were pickems. His record was 49-54-1.

I am correct that he is A) a chalk player, and B) wrong more than he is right.

Were those against the spread? Going chalk only matters in things like NCAA brackets or confidence type pools. If you're playing against the spread or giving up odds (moneyline), then that should balance it out.

In any case, that record is not good.

Author:  Kirkwood [ Tue Jun 16, 2015 3:20 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Scorehead

a binary moneyline W/L record will be skewed to W however the bankroll likely skewed L. long-term a person's bankroll will get pasted eating moneyline chalk.

if i did the research i bet (ha!) that long term that betting spread favorites is a losing proposition. favorites are generally inflated a bit. especially when you talk about the nfl/ncaa.

i can't really speak for nba/ncaa/mlb. those sports have wrecked me so i no longer play them.
