Why are the players standing around right now? Where is the trophy? This is an embarassment to the league.

Apparently the Dean from Community is going to present the trophy.

You mean when they assembled the stage and introduced Doris Burke, who then introduced the Commisioner to the crowd.....yeah, they had to wait for the stage to be assembled...

he should have run out there by himself without being introduced....because according to some, thats how it was all planned.

It's really a sad state of affairs for the NBA. This would never happen under Stern's watch.

That is what they plan for Bettman. They can't say "and here's Gary Bettman!" because everyone will immediately boo him (except in Phoenix where he's their hero). That's what happens when you order three lockouts and cancel an entire season!

That is possible that they wouldnt have announced Bettmans name even if they are ready....have to respect David Stern, he got to the point of embracing the boos....became a tradition...especially at the draft.

I assume they will have numerous media outlets tomorrow with stories about not being ready to present the trophy?
?

I didn't see the Cup presentation last year, but they did the same thing in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, and 2009. The p.a. announcer says something like "and now, the presentation of the Conn Smythe Trophy," and Bettman just picks it up from there without it being formally tossed to him. I don't know why they bother doing it this way. What, like people aren't going to notice the diminutive Noo Yawker babbling and wiggling his head? Like we don't do the same shit every year (except for 2005, which is kind of the problem)? Bettman gets booed at the draft, too. I remember he got it especially bad in Philadelphia (of course) and sneered about how he "appreciated their enthusiasm."

Back to trophy talk: The O'Brien Trophy does look pretty cool in a modern-art way. However, because I am not Dan Bernstein, I must say that I prefer that the Stanley Cup is first awarded to the team captain and then to every last player and coach before it makes its way to ownership. The Warriors kind of subverted it a little bit by getting some guys behind Peter Guber to sorta hold the trophy up with him, but on the heels of all the cool Stanley Cup moments, giving the O'Brien to an old guy in a t-shirt over a suit felt a little dopey.

This kind of talk is dangerous. Players don't win championships. Jerry Reinsdorf wins championships.

ABC went to a commercial, and NBC did not. Obviously the NBA was running behind schedule and panicked.

Why did the NBA have to go to commercial? They should have been ready to present the trophy right away, and they weren't.
