Driving down Lagrange tonight and it is mostly empty. Speed Limit is 55 and I am going between 55-60 in the right lane. There is a car in the left lane slightly behind me. Some asshole drives up behind me flashes his brights and honks his horn. I am of the mindset of fuck him and i'm not speeding up so he has a passable gap between me and the other car. Eventually other car slows down and he flips me off as he drives past. Fast forward five minutes as I continue my drive home and I see police lights in the distance. The dickhead got pulled.

Nice, conns.

I had an equally satisfying moment, though no cops were involved.

Nothing irritates me more while driving than seeing idiots, both young and old, looking down at their phone. I'm not talking about looking while at a red light. I'm talking while driving at all.

Yesterday, there was some young punk with his windows down, looking at his phone while doing about 40 mph. It was on a 4-lane stretch of road. He was in the left lane. I was on the right.

I pulled up alongside him, rolled my window down, and yelled, "Get off your phone, stupid ass!"

I scared the hell out of him as he didn't notice me until I started yelling, which, OK, that might have also caused an issue while he was driving. Luckily, it didn't. He slowed down so that he remained behind me in the left lane. I kept checking my rearview to make sure he didn't have that phone anywhere I could see it. It never reappeared. At least for the rest of the 2 minutes we were on the same street.

While sharing this story with family and friends, someone wrote, "You're lucky you weren't shot." True enough, but I knew this Glenview punk probably wasn't packing. I knew my audience.

I seriously wish I could be deputized so that when I see a dumbass on his phone while doing 65 or some other stupid idiot in the left lane not leading the way, I can pull them over and either pistol whip them or at the least, issue a ticket for being a moron.

good story, ed. i like when they listen. and i'm not the person to do that. i rarely even honk my horn. only at those sensitive 5 second green lights when you know you'll be stuck there for 2+ minutes (ahemkingeryhighwayandnorthavenue).

i think sometime last year was driving down 88 and some jerkass on a bike (for the kicks, man!) was being a jerkass and acting like he was a boss...sped up to like 90mph. about 2 minutes later i pass him on the side of the road, with the blue lights parked behind him. that's called justice.

Same thing happen to me, only the guy lost control of his station wagon  and smashed into the side of a tunnel. I didn't stop laughing all the way home.

A couple of weeks ago I was on 355 in the mid afternoon. Traffic wasn't flying along at 70, but it wasn't an idle crawl either. Anyway there was a semi truck in the left lane for about 3 or 4 miles. I was riding the middle lane and once I got in front of the trucker, there was nobody within 1000 yards of him. About 30 seconds after I passed him, I glanced in my mirror and saw him getting pulled over. Whether it was for riding the left lane or not who knows, but I thought that was some poetic justice.

I usually don't as it's not worth any potential violence, but with the week I've had, it just bubbled over.

Seems like a pretty petty thing to get pulled over for.

When my son was going to northern michigan university in Marquette he was driving home in the winter. 2 lane highway and heavy snow. He was driving as fast as conditions would allow. Somebody was riding his tail, clearly agitated that he wasn't driving faster. Eventually the guy blew past him. Soon after he saw that same car in a ditch

You shouldn't tailgate someone in the right lane for going the speed limit, but speed it up Gramps.

I hate when something like that happens. I usually see old ladies and men do those things. I think truck drivers are being assholes when they do it.

in that area.....no. especially late at night

i might go up to 10 over but that's about it....he just said the guy who passed him got pulled over !

edit: I supposed "driving down Lagrange" could put you in any number of different towns, I was kind of assuming Orland area for whatever reason. maybe further north it's less cop-y

10 mph over is acceptable.

I'd guess the guy who got pulled over was going more than that.

most likely

but also i think those unspoken/artificial amounts you are "allowed" to go over are reduced when it's very late at night...in other words I think your chances of being pulled over for going 10 over at 1am are a lot higher than if you're going 10 over at 5pm

Bagels is correct. If you're doing 60 on LaGrange Road at night, thats way too fast to say nothing of all the cops that patrol that road at night. Not smart.

Unless we are talking about significant curves, I don't think I've ever driven any major road that 5 mph over was way too fast.

I wouldn't go 1 mile over the limit near Orland at any time of the day.

I just moved and looked at a place in Orland. The police situation entered into my decision.

Im not anti cop. I like cops to do their jobs. Orland cops are city collectors. Ive been pulled over 8 times in my life. 5 in Orland in the one year I lived there.

Rogue, I disagree on the petty thing. Trucks are already a major part of the traffic problem. If they arent allowed in left lane then they shouldnt be there.

Tailgating should be punishable by death. It's the cause of nearly every traffic jam and accident. Why should you ever touch your brakes on a highway? Because you're following too damn close! Are you trying to arrive a nanosecond sooner? Where the fuck were all these people on the day in Driver's Ed when they explained about leaving a car length for every ten mph?

White and pulled over 5 times in Orland? Amazing.

2 second rule. 2 full seconds passing the same landmark as the car in front of you

But if someone is going under the limit....tailgaiting is almost inevitable

It's damn near impossible to not tailgate at times in the left lane of an expressway or major road, but that is mostly because of people that think the left lane is for anyone going faster than farm equipment.

I've never been given a ticket in Orland but I got pulled over out there a few years ago (assuming it was for DWB) but after he saw my JORR approved sports coat he told me to have a nice evening. Didn't ask for my license or anything else.

I know many people are discourteous, but how does tailgating them help? Are you trying to push them along?

Well, talking about the left lane of an expressway, many drivers won't move over until someone is directly behind them.

Then again, back in New York, people would come to a complete stop on an on-ramp, so people are just stupid.

I've actually seen a guy back off an on-ramp when he saw that traffic was heavier on the Major Deegan than he liked.

 Yeah, I've done that myself, but it really is bad driving and very dangerous. One thing I've learned in my old age is that I can only drive my car. I can't drive the other guy's.
