one of the best from the greatest era of baseball I hate to admit it but when its a Yankee, its writ large. We battle over stupid scraps and that team sits there as the constant, amusedly observing from on high. Rest In Peace funny man. |

I get sad thinking about the long-gone generation when batters tried to make contact. |

born in St. Louis, so he is the best ever You would have sworn he was a born and bred New Yorker. He, as much as anyone from the Yankee past, seemed to exude New York. |

Served on a troop transport ship on D-Day. 10 titles & 3 MVPs. And I've never heard a less than complimentary word about the kind of person he was. |

What a life! Served his country in WW2, married for 60+ years, played with DiMaggio, Mantle, etc., 10 championships, 3 MVPs, lived to 90. I think it's safe to say he will be only the fifth player to get a monument (not just a plaque) at Yankee Stadium. |
