He's traded away Josh Donaldson, Carlos Gonzalez, Yeonis Cespedes, Gio Gonzalez and Addison Russell. |

It's not really a stretch considering the regular season success he's had with the lowest payrolls in baseball. He has an eye for talent. |

All things being equal in terms of payroll and organization structure, I'd take Billy Beane over KW. |

The Sox payroll shot up after 2005, but there were many years before that where the payroll was pretty close. |

He didn't get burnt on a trade until after the WS. Not agreeing to take back Willis in the Cabrera deal is where the slide started. |

People can talk about guys he traded away and rightfully so. He traded away some guys way before he had to that were/are very good. But realize that he traded many of the players, because he had to. He could not afford to retain them, with the budget he is given. Trading away guys like Russell was done in desperation. He thought he had a team that might actually be able to contend for a title, if given a couple more starting pitchers (Shark and Hammel) to put them over the top. He does have an amazing eye for talent. Well, he and his scouts do. Otherwise they wouldn't sign, draft and develop sufficient talent to remain relevant so often and have so many good players to deal away, who wind up being remembered best as guys who shouldn't have been traded. But again, he trades them when he can no longer keep them due to his budget, or trades guys when he needs a piece to complete a puzzle. he's done an amazing job. |

Beane traded Josh Donaldson and Addison Russell for virtually nothing. We have a different definition of "amazing job". |

Are you guys missing the point that his own team has now given him a promotion which isn't really a promotion like they did with Kenny? |

Beane has not done an amazing job. he lost in a crapshoot game and tried to fix his previous playoff mistakes roster wise. It didn't work out. We will enjoy Russell but I still view Beane as a good regular season GM who has done some amazing seasons with very little money. |

Winning one playoff series in eighteen years is not an amazing job, as previously stated. |

It's also not anyones fault but his own that he stayed in Oakland. If Oakland is a limiting factor then go someplace else. |

Boilermaker Rick wrote: It's also not anyones fault but his own that he stayed in Oakland. If Oakland is a limiting factor then go someplace else. But he's sort of become bigger than just an executive in Oakland, hasn't he? I thought he owns a stake in the team itself, among other perks. Always assumed he stayed there because, relative to other GMs, he's got it made in Oakland. |
