Took it upon herself to clean up a vacant lot in Englewood under a broken viaduct. Brought her 2 kids out there and started cleaning. One guy joined in and started helping.

...and of course, someone came to her complaining about the homeless peoples belongings there...couches, shopping carts, etc.

Saw a special on ESPN about Conor Barwin turning lots like this in Philly into playgrounds...

Go and do it.

It wasnt all from illegal dumping. Plus the guy didnt even realize it was roof shingles, that the waste companies wont take in the dumpsters, thats why it was there.

Probably has been an eye sore for 10+ years. Looked like a cool place for a skate park.

I also bet if you asked the right people you would get permission, if not ownership of the land and some money to clean it up.

yes, it all takes time...but just as the story points out, there is always an asshole....just like here.....one lady came out to argue with Katie, who was cleaning the place up about the belongings of any homeless people that use that area.

Just like IRL, the good actions get no attention but the pud in the sweatshirt thread dominates.

Quote:
Katie Baker told Blakley she asked one of the longest squatters living on the site, known only as Ted, if there was anything there he wanted to preserve. He said no, and simply left the area.

Neighbors say he’d been living there for months, maybe years, with several dogs and a rooster.

Why does a homeless guy have several dogs, and a rooster?

Of course. Hopefully she continues. I've seen a few people start working on empty lots and then just give up.
