There are far too many negative stereotypes out there about mail carriers. I've had the same mail carrier for about 9 years. She has always done an excellent job. She walked miles even when she was pregnant with a smile on her face. When she missed about 5 months because of her pregnancy late last year I was devastated.

I just want to take the time to thank all mail carriers for all they do. These mail carriers walk miles 6 days a week in some of the most extreme conditions and worst neighborhoods to deliver mail that we are going to throw away. They have a very dangerous job too. They run from dogs and listen to old people threaten them about their check. Occasionally they have to take cover from gunshots. The only thing they have to protect themselves is mace and their shoes and socks. Despite all of this they still show up and continue doing a thankless job. That's dedication to your craft. Mail Carriers you are the real MVP. :salut: :salut: :salut:

I've known 5 mail carriers in my life, and none of them attacked or killed me, or even mistreated me.

Our mail carrier is a wimp who tries to get someone else to do our neighborhood every chance he gets because we all have steps to get up to the mailbox. To be fair, after 30 minutes of trick or treating on our blocks our 2yo daughter was too tired to walk up the steps, and after 30 more I was too tired to carry her up the steps myself, so I can see his point.

She's back now so I am fine. The mail just didn't feel the same without her. I even bought her daughter a gift to show my gratitude.

Mail carriers is the correct term. Don't insult the fine women who do the job.

My Mailman might just be the nicest man that I've ever met in my life, he's just a great guy and I love talking with him. However, the current postal system is outdated and no longer necessary. People don't write letters and many receive and pay their bills on line. The postal service needs to be drastically downsized. I could live with mail delivery once a week.

I don't begrudge my mail carrier as an individual, but I hate the USPS more than any other (quasi-)Federal agency.

There is nothing I get from the USPS that is urgent enough to justify daily delivery. It's almost all the crap unaddressed mail and the addressed junk mail from people who purchase mailing lists. Plus Christmas cards, and replacement credit cards. And I travel a lot, so the mailbox fills up and I have to go 5 miles away to get my mail at a one-window regional facility that is open 10-4 M-F and finally started being open 9-12 Saturday. And if I'm traveling a couple of weekends in a row, fuck me too bad, they'll just return my mail to everybody and tell the world that I vacated my property.

I'd be willing to PAY them the same rate as a small PO Box (so about $10/month) to have a service with weekly delivery similar to garbage collection, no junk mail, and a 90-day hold instead of a 30-day hold. I would just get a PO Box in the next town over (2 miles), but too many financial services firms insist on being able to deliver to a street address, even though I have e-billing for everybody. At one point before e-billing was common, I had a UPS Store box (so a street address) when our office was across the street from one, but then stuff like insurance companies thought I was a Chicago resident. So when we moved offices, I cancelled it.

I'd pay even more money for a truly virtual service that put labor into scanning, storage, and selective delivery instead of bombarding me with a bunch of crap that is going straight to the recycling bin or the shredder. There are companies out there that do that, but not ones that can do that and let me retain my home address for postal mail.

The entire workflow for postal mail is fucked, because nobody wants to cut postal employee jobs for fear of pissing off the relevant unions. As a result, fuck mail carriers.

Off the top of my head IRS and NSA comes to mind as considerably better outfits to carry more disdain for.

A premium daily service could exist for businesses that still want to receive & pay bills the old fashioned way.

Post subject:  Re: Mail Carriers

So you would like business to pay a premium for getting their mail on a daily basis?

Chet.....if you are gone for weeks at a time, put your mail on hold and have them deliver it when you get back or go in and pick it up when you return.
