i think it was a student board of sorts that voted against the idea of having future moments of 9/11 remembrance because it'd create an "unsafe space" for "non-white-students" who are of the race/religion/denomination of the people that did 9/11. story @ http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=6974

the article wrote:
Nathan Amundson serves as President of UMN’s Young Americans for Liberty chapter and student group representative for Write Things, a creative writing group. Amundson said debate on the resolution centered around whether enacting the moment of recognition might instill a more islamophobic sentiment on campus.

“This resolution was non-controversial and was supported by the MSA’s President and Vice-President,” said Amundson, “However, several members, in exchanges with CRs rep Theo Menon, were militant in their opposition to it due to a perceived bias toward Muslims.”

Other proponents of the resolution argued in forum that its passage could bring up controversial topics, and that a healthy dialogue and campus tension reduction would ensue from the moment of recognition.

At-large MSA representative and Director of Diversity and Inclusion David Algadi voiced severe criticism of the resolution. He also made sure to emphasize 9/11’s status as a national tragedy in his response.

“The passing of this resolution might make a space that is unsafe for students on campus even more unsafe,” said Algadi, “Islamophobia and racism fueled through that are alive and well.”

Algadi added that holding a moment of recognition over a tragedy committed by non-white perpetrators could increase racist attitudes on campus, asking, “When will we start having moments of silence for all of the times white folks have done something terrible?”

yeap, this is how free speech/expression dies.... #SafeSpaces aka #Triggering. not to mention we now can't officially remember the victims of any crime/terrorism/etc that was perpetrated by non-white-people because remembering the victims might remind everyone that non-white-people did something wrong and that would add to racist sentiments against the non-whites, and besides, when are we gonna stop and have moments of silence for all the terrible things done by white people?

TLDR = no more remembrances for tragedies committed by non-white-ppl because it's only going to make ppl more racist against whoever committed the horrible act/s, but hey whenever you wanna have a group moment of silence/remembrance for remembering that white people have done the most horrible things in history = we're long overdue.

i'm not saying but holy shit.... #ImJustSayin.....................................#AthansMotors

You have to hand it to the College Republicans there and elsewhere. They know exactly what they're doing and they're doing it well. That's the difference between 60s campus activism and campus activism for the new millenium.

speaking of, did you hear that there was recently some march by students who think that college should be 100% free for everybody?

this makes me wonder if these "future leaders of america" are willing to basically give the super-wealthy a perpetual hookup for the rest of time (even tho that's kind of the point of getting rich in the first place) and declare a certain level of global oligarchs "too big to fail" or "too entrenched to remove" and basically allow them to continue on as "the devil/s you know" without having to worry about new $$$ trying to get involved and nip at their heels ---- in exchange for everyone getting a free ride through life.

you know, if everyone got free college and a free middle-to-(upper-middle) class existence either handed to them by job placement or out-n-out welfare, would these "future leaders" be willing to 100.0% invalidate any lottery tickets to superwealth in exchange for being handed some future-equivalent of "the american dream" -- and furthermore institute a system where theoretically everyone can get on decently enough with a living space and a bunch of cheap chinese electronics and internet access out the wazoo, but the price for that would be formally capping success to such a level where there's basically a hard salary cap for everyday life en masse?

of course human nature would end up having the dolemasters in charge of overseeing/distrobuting everyone's super-welfare taking way too much and trying to end up relatively-rothschild-rich (i once met a dude with the last name of rothschild and i was like "rothschild? are you from the family that owns all of the money in the world?" =) via screwing everyone and likely either outright taking people's $$$ or inflating the global/economy so much that everyone ends up working/poor and the elite get even more of the pie fortified by the hard salary cap out there that ostensibly exists to "make everyone equal" but does so by making sure people above the average are directly cut down to drag them down to the poor, as opposed to raising up the poor to be equal/near to "everyone."

plus you know if there's a $$$ problem getting the last stragglers up to that magic $100k/year or whatever that they're gonna sooner pilfer ppl with $250k as opposed to ppl with 250mil-250bil cuz "taxes are for poor people" and by the time this comes around white guilt should be huge and people will be outright programmed to believe that they're horrible-people for having more than the next guy and thus please take the $$$ immediately and then to atone they can have a few rounds with my wife because that's not even a punishment in 2035, it's a progressive privilege to personally watch one's wife do something about the nagging "white person" problem that's been plaguing the world for far too long....

the "ultimate solution" will be retroactively charge white ppl with all their crimes for the last million years and sentence them to "diversity breeding" where white babies are not allowed in order to promote a more diverse and tolerant world where there are no new white people to continue the millenia of privilege, patiarchy, racism, and bigotry.

i mean seriously, if the world didn't have white people we could finally eliminate racism and move forward towards a more tolerant and understanding utopia. the only problem is that there's too many white people left from the old world, so we'll have to dust off those FEMA fun camps in order to intern them indefinitely to prevent them from going out into society and creating unsafe spaces for other non-white people.

but when you stop and think of how many tens of thousands of years white people have been terrorizing the planet, man, it's time to have a much needed conversation about some common sense white person laws. we could end all of the problems in the world right now if we just got rid of white people... so let's make college free for everyone (to pay for it you tax white people 200% on every dollar/asset that they have over 100k but under 100mil, cuz 100mil+ = protected "job creator" designation) and make sure that everyone gets a college education in 2015+ so then you know they'll be on board with that agenda....

indeed, it's time to stop beating around the bush and just set that damn thing ablaze so we can have a quick word with God to let Xor (we can't pretend to know God's preferred pronoun, let alone Xor "gender" or anything) know that we're finally getting around to doing Xor's will on earth. awomyn! (amen = patriarchy/etc)

yeah seriously guys/gals, i'm not running around screaming #WhiteGenocide!!!!! on twitter, i'm poking fun at the ethos/logos/mentality/etc of people who do.

if you're referring to me, well just know i made this thread cuz it was the lead story on megyn kelly's fox news show @ 9pm. she was the one who talked about u of minnesota and started getting outraged and etc, and when she got to the kids marching for free college she had one of the fox & friends hosts on where they both talked about how they had dead daddies b4 they graduated high school and they didnt go around looking for rich people to foot the bill so they could go to stanford.

"maybe if you can't afford $60k tuition you can't afford to go stanford, ever thought of that?"

You know, if you read this in the voice of a backwoods Tennessee preacher . . . it sounds better.

Apocalyptic.

Old people have always gotten worked up over the crazy liberalism of college campuses.

It isn't really reflective of any shift in regular culture. The only place the frat mentality lingers beyond the campus is Wrigley Field

I can't tell from what was posted if the University of Minnesota is going to stop having remembrances of 9/11 or if they will continue to do so.

Nevermind. I followed the link and they voted to not have remembrances for ridiculous reasons. Shameful.
