He aint Mike, but he is probably the closest you will ever see, kudos on an amazing career.

No doubt in the top 10 of all time. Not saying where he is on the chart but is with the Elite.

MJ
Magic
Bird
Wilt
Bill
Kobe
Oscar
Shaq
Kareem
_______ #10?

Shaq, Kareem, Wilt, Bill...size is part of the game they played, I dont deny their skill as it is harder for the big man to get up and down the court and do the things Kobe did, but Kobe's SKILLS were top notch.

The will to win- it's Kobe and Michael at a level no one else has ever seemed to match.

This has to be killing LeBron. First Steph takes away all the current awards and a ring, now Kobe love is pushing him out of discussions of the top 10 of all time.

Wasn't it just 2-3 years ago that LeBron being in the top 5/top 3 all time was the running theme?

good thing he didn't really rape that girl. would have put a tarnish on the reputation otherwise.

When I posted, I was thinking of LeBron. It seems to me that he has the most raw talent of any player to ever grace an NBA court. However, his will to win seems much lower than Kobe or Michael. I have a hard time quantifying it, but it seems pretty obvious. My point- if LeBron had that killer instinct of Michael or Kobe, he would have been the best of all time hands down. IMHO.

I dont like anyone questions LebRons ability, but his desire to win and the way he did it.

MJ and Kobe are spoiled kids or the proper way to say it, they have an amazing drive to win. They want something and they get it, nobody denies them anything. Its a compulsive personality that made them amazingly great.

Hah. You might have just ruined my day.

By quantifying, I meant the degree. Like does he have half as much killer instinct.....

Eh I think he still is in the minds of most people. I think most people know he'll be above Kobe when he's retired and I still wouldn't have Kobe in my top 10.

driving and listening to wjlb (hip hop mix station, the dj's, or, more likely ,the producers, usually mix the songs together, to some extent) the other day. the morning crew were on. 2 dudes and a chick.

the chick was maybe the news/entertainment reporter? She talks about Kobe's retirement and relates a story one of his Laker teammates told about how whenever Mr Jay-Z releases a new record album, Kobe would immediately memorize all the lyrics and then rap them out-loud on the team bus/plane while listening to the album on his headphones.

the other guy says, "what a competitor and perfectionist, wins all those titles, memorizes jay-z albums before his teammates"

3rd person/the other guy says, "Yeah, that's great, memorizes lyrics, wins championships, but I think Kobe's greatest accomplishment is raping that girl and walking away without going to jail, still married and still has all of his endorsements etc. By far Kobe's greatest achievement" paraphrasing.

No one comes closer to comparing to Jordan than Kobe. There were times that I expected him to hit every last second shot. His killer instinct will be missed.

You should be flattered to be placed in such esteemed company.

Duncan better than Kobe.

WRONG. I've always been objective about Kobe and never hated on him. Saying Tim Duncan is/was better isn't hate. The fact you think so shows your bias here.

Kobe was such a good villein. I'll miss him from that standpoint. He certainly had TWTW. Really did.

Strange because his dad was such a slouch. Put on like 30 lbs one year, wasted all his talent. Those sixer teams...with him, Doc, Mo, George Mac, Doug, World B...wow.

No I have always appreciated his competiveness. However, he was one of the more selfish players you'd want to see and he had a tendency to sellout in big games. Check some of the shooting percentages during a lot of those championship series if you don't believe me. He often was outplayed by opposing two guards too. He is indebted to Shaq for the first 3 rings of his career. Gasol was vital during the last two. I didn't appreciate his tendency to show up teammate during games/locker room either. He never elevated teams that weren't already the most talented. Pimped his way out of Charlotte prior to ever playing a game. Never was called on it either.

I place him somewhere between 10-15

Maybe. . . if you're just talking about shooting guards. Otherwise Larry Bird and Bill Russell are easily on the same level when you're talking about "will to win".
