Should be announced as the next Timberwolves coach in the next few days. Talk about landing on your feet. Wish him all the best.

Quote:
The Minnesota Timberwolves and former Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau are closing in on a five-year contract in the $10 million range annually for him to become their new coach and president of basketball operations, sources tell ESPN's Marc Stein.

As part of the reorganization, San Antonio Spurs general manager Scott Layden would become the Timberwolves' GM, Yahoo! Sports is reporting.

He has to deliver. Not sure his message can be the same when he's buying the groceries too. We'll see.

He may not end up winning a title with them, but he's going to have them in the conversation very quickly.

I completely agree. I think he loses some trust in the locker room though because of his titles.

I dunno, the Timberwolves might be unturnaroundable, even for Thibs.

huh? based on what ?
they have a great (young) core, including most likely this years ROY - which certainly plays more to Thibs strengths. not to mention they had a coach (Mitchell) who didn't realize how to correctly utilize that talent
they finally shed some of the dead weight veterans (Kevin Martin)
they had some solid wins against good teams this year including ending the Warriors home streak

this is a great hire, and I fully expect a great season next year. they are only a few pieces away from serious contention, and this is a great first step

This hire is going to make Paxson look even worse than he already does--starting next season and continuing for a long time.

They have back to back RoY's, #5 pick, at least 20 mins in cap space and a lot of young talent. If everyone stays healthy Thibs should send Paxson a card.

I'd love for Thibs to be successful in MN. I am disgusted with the Bulls....

I hope he does well but I'm a Bulls fan first. I still want Paxson and the Bulls to be better.

I am a Bulls fan first, but they have not exactly been fan friendly. I am hoping for the bottom to drop out so that the heeling can begin.

Paxson needs to go away. He's had his chance and has proven to be a point A to B guy.

Whoa, didn't realize how many assets the T-Wolves had stocked up. Kinda wish Minnesota was in our division now instead of Portland and Utah's.

I think he'll do well but I think you have to question just how hard he runs his team during the season.

I don't think that's going to be much of a concern for a team of almost all under-25 guys who are athletic as hell.

And now he's taken them right back to A

I do wonder why this criticism never gets made of the front office, particularly given how much that particular idea was used to justify the dismissals of Skiles and Thibodeau.

You gotta let some of these folks take the T-wolves, man. You already got the Warriors and I got the Spurs.

The Bulls front office has been heavily criticized this year, and Paxson in particular. It's basically just Bernstein and KC now that will still blindly defend him.

With Kobe gone I need a backup team.

Bernstein is throwing Gar under the bus. Paxson is a "smart" guy and should run the team according to Dan.

The Grizz have been my backup team for a long time. Good backup team. Especially now that they play nothing but backups.

Right but the specific "A to B" point is only ever made of coaches, never of front offices like the Bulls. Same goes for "x years is a long time to coach without winning anything," as Paxson's apparent lifetime appointment contradicts the applicability of this argument to management.
