And Fitzgerald is not a good coach. Game planning was atrocious. The bloom is officially off the rose.

Army's offense is funny and even though they had two weeks (kind of) to prepare for it, giving up a few points happens. And this is the first loss where I can say that a healthy Persa would have made a difference.

BUT, my mouth was wide open as Northwestern went to their goal line defense... with three down linemen. I have never seen that before. They had no chance of stopping Army whatsoever on some of those short yardage plays.

Also, if I was a Northwestern fan I'd be spectacularly pissed about the PersaStrong stuff. They've lied their whole way through this, and even today when they said he was available in case of emergency he wasn't (losing to Army = emergency).

The season isn't over - the conference is awful - but I think you have some right to be upset.

I'll trade you coaching staffs.

At least Jerry Kill got our team prepared and ready for games.

We have no business losing to anyone by 42 points. Even a crappy UNLV team was more competitive than we were.

As for Fitzgerald, i thought the extension he was given was not well thought out. Not sure if a coach who hasn't won a bowl game and has averaged around 7 wins a season is worth a 10-year extension.

There are about 123 Bowl Games these days....Northwestern last won one 60 plus years ago....Cats games are entertaining because there IS NO SCRIPT...I will be the first to inform you when Northwestern Football approaches the stature of Nebraska....Until then, worry about beating the Golden Gopher!!!!

At this point, why not just medical redshirt Persa so that he gets a full year?

Although I wish you were right, Persa cannot apply for a medical redshirt. You have to physically not be able to play. In other words, it's going to be hard to argue a medical redshirt if Fitz is on record saying he is 100% healed.

It doesn't take an NU educated lawyer to make the argument that if he was healed he would be playing

NU doesn't "suck" and Fitzgerald didn't turn into a bad coach because of one game.

Now if we lose to the Illini, I may have to concur with you . . .

What did Army do that was different than any other game they played? Look how many points other teams were able to put up on them, and our vaunted offense couldn't do sh!z. Our linemen (offense and defense) were substantially bigger, yet their gameplan had us on our heals the entire game. I put that on the coaches. If Northwestern wants to be taken seriously, we need to win games like this. While the sky isn't falling, Illinois is going to DESTROY NU. Early congrats, Dr. Ken.... good game good game.

Well, at least I now know one of you went to class while you were there.

Duke 2007
Indiana 2008
Syracuse 2009
Purdue 2010
Army 2011

That's one awful loss a year, and that's not even counting stuff like the 35 point comeback by MSU, the 21 point comeback by PSU last year, and all the ridiculous thrashings by the conference champions.

I was a huge Randy Walker fan, and I think Fitzgerald has been pretty much coasting on Walker's success since he got here. The returns are decreasing. And the schedules are about to get a LOT harder. Good luck with that.

Fitz is outrecruiting Randy Walker. And Fitz has gotten us to 3 consistent bowls with very close games against a very good Missouri, Auburn, and Texas Tech teams. You can say a lot about Fitz, but his last three years have been good. Perhaps I should clarify... good by NU's standards, which as we all know are lower than that of 3/4ths of the Big Ten.

And I don't get the coasting comment? It's not like Randy left the cupboard full. In fact, it was quite empty when Fitz took over in 2006 after Randy's death. I have no allusions that Fitz is Knute Rockne. But he's a guy that is helping get butts in the seats, making us competitive, and represents our school very well by not saying stupid sh!t like so many coaches do these days (see Gary Barnett in Colorado).

I have to agree that the NU side of the conference is going to be awfully hard to predict. All teams have shown serious flaws - even Nebraska. I can see 5 teams having a chance to win the right to get pounded by the Badgers in Indy.

On a bright note, I'm heading with friends to Lincoln Nebraska to see my Cats get pounded by the Huskers. Lincoln was on my "bucket list" of college stadiums. Really looking forward to it.

The Huskers are very overrated in my mind. Unless the Blackshirts decide to show up this season, they will get beat along the way.

BTW: I head the Husker fans are a bunch of jackasses so come prepared. :rambo:

I've heard the opposite about the Husker fans. They were very nice at the Alamo bowl when we got destroyed by them in 2000. Besides, we are NU. People kinda treat NU differently. I guess they feel like we aren't much of a threat so we get treated pretty well everywhere we go... with the exception of Ohio State. Those fans are just evil through and through.

I strongly recommend not coming to an Iowa night game - for the most part people are really nice at Kinnick, but you will have people who were drinking all day at that point. :-)

Persa apparently will play against the Illini. I'm not sure that should worry anyone. He hasn't played a down of live football in quite some time. In addition, Persa being back doesn't solve the walking wounded defense we got going on. Methinks Illini RB's will still have a field day.

I went to Lincoln for an ND v. Nebraska game. I had a great time with no problems from cornholers. The entire downtown (the little of it there is) turns into a tailgate for games. It has an octoberfest vibe. Good times.

Army getting crushed by Ball State isn't going to help Northwestern's BCS chances if they win out.
