Good to see NIU pull in their new AD from one of the best Big Ten programs, hopefully he keeps the strong AD streak going in line with the likes of Jim Phillips and Jeff Compher....

http://espn.go.com/chicago/college-sports/story/_/id/9482023/northern-illinois-huskies-hire-wisconsin-badgers-sean-frazier-ad-source-says

Quote:
Wisconsin deputy athletic director Sean Frazier has been named Northern Illinois' athletic director, a source said Tuesday.

Frazier replaces former NIU AD Jeff Compher, who left for East Carolina.

Frazier has been at Wisconsin since 2007. He also was runner-up for the Rutgers athletic director position that went to Julie Hermann.

Frazier will be officially introduced as NIU's AD at noon ET Tuesday.

Quote:
He was extremely close to becoming the Rutgers AD. The vote had to go to a tie breaker. This seems like a great hire and this guy seems ready for the job.

"Hermann was chosen for the position at Rutgers over Wisconsin deputy athletic director Sean Frazier following an emergency voting session this morning by the school's 11-member Board of Governors. That session was necessitated after Rutgers' six-member Executive Athletic Committee deadlocked at 3-3 in trying to choose between Hermann and Frazier as Tim Pernetti's successor."

"It's interesting the decision was that close, and I imagine it speaks well to Frazier's candidacy as an athletic director. Between his impressive resume and the stature Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez has previously flaunted to help worthy assistants land promotions elsewhere, it feels safe to say Frazier will get his shot running the show before long."

It's wasn't Spanky? Must be the Rockford education that's keeping him down.

For anyone interested, Frazier will be on The Score with Boers and Bernstein at 2:20 following the press conference in Chicago. He will also be on Sports Talk Live on CSN tonight at 6:00.....

Quote:
WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT FRAZIER...

Barry Alvarez
University of Wisconsin, Director of Athletics
"Northern Illinois hired an outstanding individual, a very competent administrator, someone that I have relied on heavily in the last several years and someone that I have a great deal of confidence in. He is a strong administrator in all areas; he is an outstanding family man and someone who will be heavily involved in the community.

"I think Sean is one of the top authorities in the country on diversity. Sean deals with individuals very well; he is a strong leader and is someone I have given a lot of responsibility to. He has become a close friend and he has done an outstanding job here."

Jim Phillips
Northwestern University, Vice President for Athletics & Recreation
"Northern Illinois has made an absolutely sensational hire in naming>Sean Frazier its next Athletic Director. I have had the privilege to work alongside Sean in the Big Ten for the past five-and-a-half years. Sean served in a leadership position at Wisconsin, so he would be in all of our Athletic Directors meetings and I have been incredibly impressed with his leadership, his knowledge and his passion for the student-athlete experience.

"As a place that I love, Northern Illinois University, I couldn't be happier, or more proud, of the selection they have made. Sean and his family will be a wonderful addition to the Huskie family and I am incredibly excited about this announcement."

I wish that guy the best. NIU has been a great story... and not just this past year. I've really enjoyed watching their athletic program grow. Not to mention that Jim Phillips is probably the best thing to happen to Northwestern athletics in... well, ever.

The new guy has his work cut out for him. Jeff Compher had pretty awful non-conference scheduling philosophy. One that has seen us make two 1-for-1 deals with Idaho, play random 1-AA teams rather than playing EIU, WIU, SIU, and ISU on a more consistent basis, playing Iowa and Wisconsin way too many times, and even just agreeing to four road games to Nebraska while losing the SF game against them.

He's around. He just on Twitter more often. He just tweeted out the other night when he was at Pitchfork, I believe.
