Really strange timing.
Wonder of he gets the "quitter" treatment that Spurrier, etc got.

Two thoughts:

1) He's dying.
2) Maybe it's a move to get the possible replacement in there, see what he can do during Big Ten play. Hope he performs and then solidify what will happen at the end of the year for fans and recruits.

Sounds like Bo and Alvarez were fighting over who would be the successor. Bo wanted it to be his assistant and this is his way of forcing Barry to give him a shot.

I inherently trust Ryan's intentions to be good but I understand your point.

I'd have to agree on this. Good opportunity to let the replacement have a chance with a team that isn't completely void of talent but is obviously down
from last year. I am sure Alvarez would like to make a big splash with a bigger name. Ryan has been solid at all levels of coaching. He was fun to
watch on the sidelines, he has a real passion for the game and is an excellent interview. I wish him a lot of luck.

What a wonderful day! Pretty good coach but I won't miss his act.

Wisconsin has done a great job hiring low key coaches who know how to effectively recruit the state for fits to their system

Between Ryan and Bennett they had 20 years of guys that worked their entire careers in the Wisconsin high school and lower NCAA division ranks. I'd argue
they have gotten more out of their program with very few top ranked and mostly mid ranked recruits than just about anyone during their tenures.

That loss to Marquette didn't help.

Seems to me Wisconsin has been a good blueprint for those schools unwilling or unable to go the one and done route.

He's 11-10 so it isn't that.

It's a shame we didn't get him twice this year.

As for his act, his constant sideline demeanor. How he recruited and protected cheap shot artists. His whining and complaining during and after the Final Four. He's another coach who has to tell everyone how they do it better than others. How his style is one of the things that made Big Ten basketball pretty horrible for a while.

He should be thanking Frank Kaminsky every day that he went from a guy who couldn't get off the bench to the national player of the year.

I'm cool if people hated Gene Keady.

Or maybe Frank should be thanking him.

Bo got the job done. U of I could only dream of having that kind of sustained success.

Here is a good example.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM816fpnPmw

Bo Ryan afterwards said the screen was fine and not a big deal. Lost pretty much all respect for him after that.

He was pretty good. I'm glad he is gone.

We also can add quitting on his team because they aren't that good and thinking he somehow deserves to make decisions for the athletic director on the next coach to his "act".

I think he has somewhat earned the right to help hand pick the next coach. Alvarez is a bit of an asshat who has a bigger head than Spanky regarding his importance
within the Wisconsin sports system. Yes, he helped resurrect Wisconsin sports as we know it but when the guy leaves his AD office to head down and coach the football
team in bowl games is just ridiculous.

Unless a guy has serious health issues, quitting on your team mid-season is just that: quitting on your team.

Spurrier knew his team sucked and wanted to play more golf with his buddies.
Ryan knows his team sucks and wanted to get his buddy a job.

There really isn't much of a difference, imo. This should tarnish what he has done there.

 Brick doing great work here.

Glad to see the whiner gone.

He definitely should get the same treatment Spurrier did.

Wouldn't want other schools to start doing that...it would give him one less thing to whine about when his team loses.
