Northwestern football recognized for APR

Northwestern is one of seven FBS football programs -- and the only one in the Big Ten -- to receive a public recognition award from the NCAA for its latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate scores.

The awards go to teams that score in the top 10 percent with their APR scores. The full APR scores and penalties for underperforming teams will be released later this month.

The most recent multiyear APR rates are calculated from scores from the 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years.

Check out the full list of public recognition awards (all divisions).

The FBS programs recognized are: Duke, Northwestern, Rice, Rutgers, Air Force, Miami and Notre Dame. Interesting to see that two Big Ten expansion candidates -- Rutgers and Notre Dame -- are in the group.

Northwestern had 10 of its 19 varsity programs (52.6 percent) recognized by the NCAA, including men's basketball. Michigan had the Big Ten's next best percentage (24 percent).

Boilermaker Rick will not pay for any of those schools.
