This is a book written by a couple of writers from Yahoo, I have no reason for the book, but wondered if anybody got this book. The only reason I wondered or would want to read it to see if they blame the Rose Bowl as a reason for no playoff. That's was a main reason I heard for no playoff and other things.

Here is a descrption, Every college sport picks its champion by a postseason tournament, except for one: Division I-A football. Instead of a tournament, fans are subjected to the Bowl Championship Series, an arcane mix of polling and mathematical rankings that results in just two teams playing for the championship. It is, without a doubt, the most hated institution in all of sports. A recent Sports Illustrated poll found that more than 90 percent of sports fans oppose the BCS, yet this system has remained in place for more than a decade. Built upon top-notch investigative reporting, Death to the BCS at last reveals the truth about this monstrous entity and offers a simple solution for fixing it.

Death to the BCS includes findings from interviews with power players, as well as research into federal tax records, Congressional testimony, and private contracts, revealing:

•The truth behind the "Cartel"-the anonymous suits who run the BCS and who profit handsomely by protecting it

•The flawed math and corruption that determine which teams participate in the national championship

•How the system hurts competition by perpetuating "cupcake" schedules

•How "mid-major" teams are systematically denied a chance to play for the championship

•How a comprehensive sixteen-team playoff plan can solve the problem while enhancing profitability

Wishful thinking. Now that ESPN/ABC has replaced FOX Sports as the network(s) of the Bowl Championship Series, it's not going anywhere anytime soon, especially the $$$$ the "Worldwide Leader" is now paying. The arguments will continue for quite sometime.

I am a bowl person, I like watching them, and I know it sounds easy to say a playoff seems the right way, but there's a lot of things you have to work out, like were you playing and when are you playing.

Wenzel one of the authors, when he was advertising the book on the Big Ten Network and Chicago Tribune Live, said they would play the games at the college stadiums, so the bowl games that like the money lose out on that with his idea. Like the Little Caesers Bowl in Detroit, which I think they would call a welfare bowl, maybe but at least Detroit gets some money from the traveling people.

When college football gets to the Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl & the BCS Championship Game, there should NOT be a lower-tier bowl game that few really care about...Besides, it used to be that the above bowl games all took place on New Year's Day annually. Not anymore!

Shark, I think you are right, I wish college football would put more importance on New Year's Day, college football used to own the day, but now the big game that day may be the hockey game. You look at this year, they gave us an extra bowl game at the old Cotton Bowl stadium, but besides the college football, you get Capitals-Penguins at Heinz Field and an UFC PPV. This year the title game is 9 days after Jan 1 with it being on Jan 10.

To me you should have all the games played before Jan. 1, then on Jan. 1, have the Outback, Cotton, Capitol One, and Gator played early, then Rose and Fiesta played afternoon, Sugar and Orange at night like it used to be, of course this was over 3 networks, now just 1. The next night or the night after next since Sunday is the next day, play the National Championship game, the only question is if the field would be ready or play at a diffrent neutral site than they play at.

This may be the year of the doom. Everybody loses and we get a Boise State TCU title game that no one watches.

I imagine somebody would pull something out so we don't get a Boise State-TCU National title game. Now this could be the thought about midnight tomorrow, because the top 4 undefeateds play on the road tommorow.

The big thing if Michigan State wins tommorow, do they jump both Boise State and TCU?

The weird thing this year and I know there's still a lot of games to be played, but with the 10 BCS slots and 6 going to conference champions, the other 4 could go to the BCS Conferences, Pac 10- Oregon, Stanford, Big 10-Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, SEC-ALabama, Auburn, LSU Big 12-Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri. I know a lot of games to be played, but the BCS could pull some things to have no non-BCS teams in the games this year.
