I really hope Miami knew what they were doing in getting Golden when they passed on Leach and this doesn't come to burn them, as for Maryland, this move puts you back in the center of college football, may take 1 or 2 years, but Maryland will be a must watch.

Agreed. I thought Miami was the perfect fit for Leach, plus he lives in Key West. It would have been nice toe see Illinois show Zook the door & hire Leach. Oh well...

You wanted Mike Shannahan as Bears coach. I'm gonna guess Leach is fired within 5 years and never wins an ACC title.

I never wanted Shanny as Bears coach. Cowher, Gruden, or Harbaugh are my guys. As for Leach being fired within 5 tears, that would be a pretty good bet to make about any coach.
Are you saying that Leach isn't a good football coach? If so then I question your football acumen. I have Leach as one of the great offensive minds in the game today & he has a track record of success.

I think he's an average to above average coach with a gimmick offense that led him to have 1 incredible season in 2008.

Genius is a bit much.

I never said that I wanted the Bears to hire Shanny.

One good season??? You might want to take a look at his 10 years at Texas Tech. He had 10 winning seasons in a row, winning 11 games once, 9 games 3 times, 8 games 4 times, & 7 games twice for a 10 year record of 84 - 43 which I'm guessing is about a .650 winning %. I like "gimmick" offenses. It's one of the reasons I like college football so much. His offense works, gimmick or not.

I said 1 incredible season. He had 8 and 9 win seasons, but I don't thnk that qualifies him as a genius.

Reading is a skill.

Fun facts about Mike Leach;
He's a Mormon who graduated from Brigham Young
He has a Law degree from Pepperdine
He never played college football
He lives in Key West & doesn't own a car. He rides a bike.

I take it all back. Being a Mormon definitely makes him a genius.

I pity the defensive coach that has to play Maryland and Georgia Tech in back to back weeks.

I have always thought Ralph Friedgen was a great coach. I wonder where he will end up now.

According to ESPN, Ralph Friedgen's supposed to coach Maryland's upcoming appearance in the Military Bowl December 29th vs. East Carolina, but then the University of Maryland's veteran football coach will be out of a job.

My guess is he ends up as a position coach at the NFL level.

IB, did anyone around here give you credit for your call on the potential of Gus Malzhan about 2-3 years ago? Good call.

Friedgen and Mangino coaching on the same sidelines would be pretty
intimidating don't you think? Well, at least for the caterer after the game.

I never get credit for any of the fantastic things around here that I do. Gus is one of the few men that has ever taken the place of my beloved Leprechaun avatar. So is John Lennon, but I won't hold that against Gus.
