I know you all missed me while i was gone but life kept me busy there for a while.

But how 'bout them Huskies?! Laying down the wood on national television last night 65-30 behind 400+ rushing yards.

Now 8-2 and very good chance we jump into the top 25 this Sunday. If UCF is ranked there is no reason we shouldn't be. We now have two wins better than any win they have.

Really wish we would have seen this team in the beginning of the year when we played three BCS teams on the road.

We played our, now third-string QB, in the game against Iowa State and he threw three INT's. Despite that, NIU was still only down 17-10 in the 4th qtr. Iowa State has turned into a decent team despite a brutal schedule and has a chance to go to a bowl.

Then that loss to Illinois was one we should have won. We had a brutal pass interference called on us on an uncatchable ball that kept an Illinois drive alive and ultimately led to them scoring seven more points before halftime. We also had a good drive going that looked like the makings for seven more NIU points but Chandler Harnish coughed up a fumble.

Ah well, that's the past and this team has improved each week and that's what is important as the season goes along.

I'd really like to see us play Northwestern in the LCB. That would be fun. Last time the two matched up (2005) made for a great game.

Go Huskies!

Wow. Really bad on your part. Not only is it not accurate, it's not funny either. Even you are usually better than this...

I'm sure you know, but others may not so here is the "inspiration" for that. http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=893882#p893882

You'd be all over me if I made a similar post about Purdue and how injuries, penalties and turnovers are the reasons we lost a game we "should have won". In fact, you were.

How does that big Minnesota win look today?

Boiler, don't be mad that the Toledo team we just took to the woodshed beat your team. Come, join us in the LCB for a butt-kicking!

I'm not mad about it. It could have been a blessing in disguise. We'll see what happens at the end of the season.

I would say it looks approximately the same as it did before.

NIU has beaten a Big Ten team, on the road, two years in a row. They are 2-1 (actually maybe 3-1, not sure. I'll bet NIU_Huskie knows) against bowl teams from last year.

Again, try to "engineer" your mind around this: all this does is reinforce my belief that NIU could easily survive being "mediocre" in the Big Ten, as half that conference's teams currently do. That's all I've ever really said. There are enough bad/mediocre teams in that conference every year, many never ever really improving outside of a "miracle" year every 12-15 years, which NIU has also shown itself to be very capable of.

Or in the words of Cubs fans every season, "there's always next year".

Don't mention to him that Illinois team we played competitively with and is in the middle of the Big Ten standings crushed his team 44-10.

If anything, it's a "miracle" when NIU actually beats a Big Ten team considering it's happened twice in the past 20 years, and one of those teams is one of the worst teams of the past decade in the Big Ten. The other team is Purdue, who both you and NIU_Huskie seem to scoff at as not good at all when not convenient.

Our coach may be fired at the end of the season, and one of the major reasons why is that he lost to a MAC team two years in a row. I think that puts things into perspective.

The transitive property in football doesn't work. But hey, if it's your point that Purdue sucks I won't argue. Just remember that a team that has a lot of the same players and is similarly bad is your teams biggest win in the past decade or more.

The way that you can tell I'm not NIU_Huskie: I could care less about "playing ompetetively". I want wins, not losses.

The CFB landscape has changed in the last 8-10 years. The "smaller schools" had no shot 20 years ago - they do now. Probably thanks (in most part) to ESPN and other TV money.

I think you underestimate what NIU actually did. They've improved things and made a stronger commitment to football. The money has helped but realistically they are still very much outpaced by any of the big schools. They, just like many historically average or bad BCS schools, have also benefited from lower team sizes and more depth in terms of high school recruits.

It will be interesting to see if they can sustain it.

Well, Purdue fans need to bring their expectations way down because they are not a program that should demand much.

I think everyone on here already knows if NIU went 0-12 next year you would trade in your fair-weather NIU pride in a heartbeat.

I take it back. I just found 2 games that were probably bigger wins.

Ok.
NIU lost 23 in a row while I went there. I followed the damn team to Iowa City, Madison, Champaign (purgatory), and many other places. I followed the OG dog-killer LeShon Johnson obsessively. Saw his first college game, his last college game, saw him run all over the Hawkeyes one year (in a loss :( ). Saw his first professional game as a member of the Packers at the old County Stadium in Milwaukee.
I tried to latch on to the career of the great Thomas Hammock after LeShon left, it just wasn't the same.
I was at the game when they broke "the streak".
I'm also around here supporting them a hell of a lot more often than you are.

Please. Think before you speak.

So are we all now convinced they aren't the same person?

Irony: NIU_Huskie "returning" after NIU finally looks like they will win the MAC and talking about being a "fair weather fan".

I was at that game (1993?). LeShon was crazy that day. God that was a bad bad bad Iowa team. Iowa really sucked when i was there 92-95.
