They aren't having NIL issues. They are having "Kansas offering him $7 million" issues though.

At this point, it's seemingly not a huge issue, and Purdue will offer him at least $3 million to stay but there is only so high they can go.

Kentucky fans are lathering themselves up about the chances of getting Smith.

Yeah I have read they are going to offer him $5 million.

He turned down Gonzaga a few times already though not quite at that level. It will be interesting but I'm guessing it all works out.

It was a very chalky first weekend. We'll see if it holds.

I don’t think any players are getting the numbers you guys are talking about. Arkansas’ entire NIL budget for basketball is around 10M.

Cooper Flagg according to an SI article on NIL is getting $3.3M. The top, next is Kam Jones at $1.8M. Starting quarterbacks were going for a little over a million last year.

And you don't think numbers are going to go up?

The rumors do seem ridiculous. But, at least in theory, NIL changes over the summer by adding a bunch of rules so it's the wild west out there spending all they can until it becomes "illegal" to not do fair market deals.

I wonder what someone would pay Flagg to stay in school one more year and go to whatever school can get him the biggest NIL. I gotta believe theres some super rich alum out there willing to give the guy $10 mil for a year at their school and a shot at a national championship.

What does he make as #1 pick next year?

Not necessarily, but we also need to find out what is coming down with the agreement next month.

Way too much to stay in school.

It won't be no 'Cinderella's' every year, but I think NIL/portal makes it harder for them. The mid-majors that have a "grindy" group of players that stick together a couple years and go on a sweet 16 type run are a dying breed. Good mid-major players are one and done to the power 4/5 school that will pay them.

not really, $12.6 mil. Obviously the big issue is getting that first contract out of the way so you can get that max, but from a straight numbers perspective I can definitely see a scenario where someone eventually offers to pay a guy more than he would get in the pros first year.

Again, I don’t believe college players are getting what some of you think.

You can do the research but I believe it is April or Mayand it will cap what players can be paid but it will be controlled by the schools. It will be a pool of money that will be split amongst all athletic programs at that school.

I will research. This sounds unilateral and will force labor into unionizing if they can get enough bodies to do so.

I was thinking the same thing myself, but we're going to need at least a couple of more years of Tournament games to see if we're experiencing a trend.
