Brick, you don't really want Weber. Then you would have TM pointing out all the problems of the Purdue program. Maybe you guys could talk Martin to ditch Tenn and come back to Purdue?

I'd be surprised if the Purdue base would be that interested in Weber.

I'd assume he'd be viewed as something like damaged goods at this point due to recent disappointments.

Interesting. Matt Painter has scheduled a visit to Missouri on Wednesday to discuss the "commitment" they have to the program.

Now, why would he choose Wednesday? It's not like he couldn't find a flight out there today. I'm sure Missouri could send a plane out. There are rumors of negotiations going on now at Purdue.

I have a feeling Painter said "Give me what I want by Tuesday night or I'm off to Missouri". He would have just went right away otherwise.

Maybe because he is on vacation with his family?

Purdue fans in general know that our athletics suck. I think TM will give me a pass.

Compared to some of the other possibilities he would be considered John Wooden. Obviously, he wouldn't be the first call but he gets the job before Shaka Smart or Indiana State's coach.

At least he's got a final four. Purdue fans have a low bar set for "recent disappointments" given they had three All-American type talents for four years and made two sweet sixteens.

This is about as much leverage as Painter can ever hope to have over the program. Several years of success, plus a much-bragged about recruiting class coming in a little while. If he can't extract real money out of Purdue now, he probably figures he never will. Sure, he might have security, but then again, fans are just as fickle as coaches.

As for Hope, I sure hope Purdue fans aren't hitching their wagons to the Robert Marve train. There were excuses last year, but this year I think Purdue might be the worst team in the Big Ten.

Given that he expected to be playing this past weekend, I don't think the family vacation is anything but a way to get him out of town. It had to be booked on Monday.

Let's hope the AD isn't stupid enough to think otherwise.

I obviously have a circle of friends that are Purdue fans, and I think the Marve train has passed for all of us. If he becomes the starter and plays awesome great but I wouldn't mind if Rob Henry was given a chance to develop for the future. I was a big fan of his from the day he committed.

Besides losing Kerrigan, they are roughly the same team from last year. If it was injuries that derailed the season they'll be decent. If it was just that they weren't that good then they won't make a bowl and Hope will be fired. Win-Win.

I did see somebody want Webber for Purdue from somebody commenting on the Lafayette news station Facebook status.

Boilermaker Rick, did you mean red-shirt and not grey-shirt or I will need grey shirt explained, never heard that one.

You think the AD might not be there for long if it's a cheap hire, but hasn't he been there for a long time, I think he hired Tiller and we are talking about Morgan Burke.

I am with you on Hope, if he doesn't go bowling at least, he should be fired.

To Irish Boy, I wanted to see how Marve did at Purdue, but in my opinoin, I would say he won't be the starter.

There's no doubt in my mind Weber would take the Purdue job if it opened up and he were offered it. He still rhapsodizes about the "great friends" he and his wife made there whenever he gets the chance.

You are actually Bruce Weber, aren't you?

Well done.

A greyshirt is when you delay enrollment to the spring, which starts your eligibility clock for the next season. You get to do spring practice and you start the next year as a true freshman(who can then redshirt if they haven't yet done enough to get playing time). It's then like you are a normal recruit, but you got an extra .5 years tuition by skipping the first half of the year. It's done in the SEC all the time for non-injury related issues. I think that's what scared the coaches.

They then went to Iowa State, who would not even offer that good of a deal. Western Michigan then offered a full scholarship because they have nothing to lose because they are a middle of the pack MAC school who can take a chance on a Big Ten level receiver.

I wish he had just honored the scholarship but it wasn't truly pulled. It was just delayed.

Thanks for the info Boiler Rick.

I will add this, I know you have put Painter put up 2 sweet 16's in 5 years, but how do you view this year for Purdue, no Hummel and if Hummel had played, just look at Kailin Lucas of Sparty, that's how he would have looked. I think Purdue started out strong, at one time could have made a case for best team in the Big 10, then sputtered late losing 3 out of last 4. I would say a good year, it's just tough to say how they truly could have done the last 2 years, last year could have been elite 8 or more that was a 2 seed team, this year could have been more if Hummel's there.

It's just hard for me to say on Painter just 2 sweet 16's in 5 years, yes true but not everybody healthy.

If I can jump to another Big 10 basketball coach, for the Buckeye fans and other people, why is there not a backlash against Matta.

Am I by myself with this beleif that there should be some heat on him, 2 straight years now he had a Final 4 team and loses in the Sweet 16. He gets good players and wins in the regular season, but not in the big tournament when it counts the most.

Like I have put before, the year he made the Finals, came real close to losing in the 2nd round to Xavier.

I was listening to Ohio State talk last night and somebody brought up that Bob Knight should be there, I know it sounds crazy and he's up there in age, but I think he would bring home a title.

I think Hummel made a huge difference, but I had already adjusted my expectations when he went down. I was expecting at a minimum a sweet sixteen without him. My biggest issue was getting blown out twice in 2 of the last 3 games. Then again, given they had one suspension, one major injury, and one minor injury it's not a shock.

I'm not disappointed with Painter only getting to two sweet sixteens. I doubt he could have done much better besides this year given the circumstances but it is disappointing that Purdue had three of the best players they've ever had and it didn't translate to more NCAA tournament success. The only thing I can fault Painter for is the lack of depth in the post. He missed on 3 consecutive classes to get a person who could play next to JJ. By the time he may have found him he was only a freshmen who wasn't really ready. The good news is that he seems to have fixed some of those issues going forward if he stays.

I've seen two reports on twitter in the last hour by writers from newspapers that Painter to Mizzou for 7 years/14 million is a done deal. Take for what it is worth.

Given the $$$ they've spent on that arena, I'd say that their commitment to the program is greater than say, a school with an out-of-date cookie cutter arena.

I don't know what you are referring to but Mackey Arena is a nice arena currently getting a $100 million makeover.

I never mentioned Mackey - but if you feel that fits the description....

This is what I was referring to:

I didn't feel it did. That's why I was confused.

I'd say that's a makeover that is needed (sorta like Illinois, FWIW):

We can't all play in a building as majestic as the Convocation Center.

My guess is you've never been there. It's certainly not outdated inside and I don't really see much of a difference on the outside stuff besides square vs. round.

Good one. Predictable, inaccurate, but good still.

No I've never been there, BR. I've been to AH in Champaign, on TV the ineterior of both buildings looks the same. Way too many seats too far away from the action. I was just commenting Mizzou's "commitment" to the program. They had a serviceable, fan-friendly arena before the new Mizzou arena - but they spent a lot of $$ on a new arena, so I think they're probably committed.

I like the SBN fan sites. A lot of them are really top-notch and are a pretty reliable source of information. But the hick that writes the Purdue SBN site is positively obnoxious. Just felt I should get that off my chest.

They spent $25 million less than Purdue is spending on it's arena upgrade.

I guess it's just that I misunderstood and thought you were taking a shot at Mackey Arena. Thanks for clarifying that you were not in fact making a determination about an arena you had to google to know what it looks like.

Yay, IB is back to being extra obnoxious today!! What, no double-windsor knots lately to satisfy your desires?

I was totally looking at what the weather was when I searched for both of those pics.

So the interior of Mackey is not actually similar to the interior of AH? They look almost identical on TV...

Both are round, with seats, and people.

Then again, you weren't talking about Mackey so what is your point?

What's my point? Huh? I'm now responding to your smart-ass statement that I have no idea what it looks like because I googled an image of it. Is that ok or should I clear that with you first?

They look amazingly similar, other than paint schemes. AH looks a little bigger, otherwise the basic design is the same.

 This newest report has already been retracted.

I still think he ends up at Missouri though. They have a rectangular stadium!
