Alright, nobody said it was a fake game.

I didn’t think the lights were on yet.

I’m still watching you, RFDC.

They lost to Indiana State last week in a scrimmage, what's one more.

The walk-on scout team beat the regulars in Monday's scrimmage. This could be a historically bad Illinois basketball season. I'm talking Illinois football category.

Illinois historically recruits incredible walk-ons.

My greatest game was on the open courts by Alpha Gamma Rho.

I would have beaten Stephen Bardo that day. Things happen.

I still have hope.

The supposedly got beat by Indiana State a couple weeks ago in a closed scrimmage, too.

Indiana State is pretty decent this year, so that is not really that bad, especially getting used to a new coach. But you cannot have your starters losing to walk ons. That cannot happen.

I am really interested in seeing how Underwoods offense philosophy works in the Big 10. It could be a big success or it could be a huge crash and burn. Not sure there is any middle ground.

I guess that it was a waste of time to find out who Underwood was

I actually hooped with Bardo about 4 weeks ago. Know you're happy for me. He came to a set that one of Liberty's old teammates from high school hosts on Sunday mornings.

He still has a little game on him. It's always funny to see wannabe hoppers attempt to come at guys that have did it for real.

One of the guys in there was scoring on him a little bit and every time he scored he'd looked to the sideline with that "He can't hold me look". It was funny as hell.

Bardo was awesome.

The glue of that team that got very little regard.

I had graduated by then, but 88-89 was my favorite team ever for the Illini (even including the 2004-05 team). The team which crushed me was the Bruce Douglas / Efrem Winters 1983-84 team which scrambled to the regional final with no meaningful NBA talent and got jobbed by having to play Kentucky at Rupp Arena. I watched that in one of the TV lounges at the Union, which I think made the loss even more annoying.

I remember that squad too. I was in the 5th grade at the time. They were both Super Sophs and had they both turned pro they'd have been first rounders. They stayed in school and fell off after that. They lost to Bowie and Turpin on their home floor but they gave them all they wanted in that game.

It's amazed me at how much that campus (and in particular the athletic department) was awash in cocaine and weed. I got there in 84 and saw that for many "stars" getting blotto was step 3 after waking up and eating breakfast.

I never actually saw that myself, but one of my friends who was down there at the same time as I was was good friends with some of the basketball players, one in particular. This was a guy who was always at parties with the athletes. Shit, this goof still can't stop doing blow. He got busted for tax evasion related to a kinky real estate deal, cut a deal for one year in prison and supervised release, and the feds wanted to throw him back in because he couldn't pass his drug tests.

I got there in 1982. They still had the rule that if a first semester freshman didn't maintain a D average the parents got a certified letter saying "come get Joeys shit because we don't want to take your money any more."

I lived at Florida Avenue. One of my friends lived a few floors below on a floor with 60 guys, not all freshman. 10 were asked not to return and 2 more survived another semester because they had taken a 1 credit PE class and gotten an A. The booze and weed was just too much for them.

Efrem turned his ankle the previous game and was very limited. That is one of my earliest Illini memories. I really liked Efrem Winters.

The biggest deterrent to college success is that first taste of freedom. Some people cannot handle not being monitored.

Between the freedom, group thinking & all the credit card offers, it's a wonder how so many make it to sophomore year.
