What are you talking about not certain? The best team in the country....

It's just weird. I honestly don't think they've played a team that is better than they are. It seems dumb to say that when Michigan State has beaten them twice, but I truly believe it. Maybe I'll feel differently after the Duke game.

It’s because they have been consistently beating themselves. Gotta look at the coaching. The players need to make baskets but I hang a lot of these on Underwood.

I watched for a few minutes last night and they were consistently being beaten back down court for easy shots.

Not so much a talent thing, as an effort thing.

I’m tuning in for at least the first half. Honestly I don’t think they have much of a chance but if they do happen to have a healthy big man and they shoot well from outside maybe they can keep it close till halftime. I’ve not seen Duke this year but lots of highlights of Flagg who they have no answer for with Johnson sidelined. I’ve heard he has a couple other solid guys beside him so I just don’t think the Illini can keep up for 40 minutes. I pray they don’t get run out of the building. Maybe they will play awesome and shock us but it’s unlikely tonight.

Oof. I hung in until half but when you are 0-16 from behind the arc you are going to be in trouble. I was impressed with Duke and how they made Illinois look really small out there. I knew they might take a beating but one like that on national tv at Madison Square Garden is on of the most embarrassing ways to get taken to the wood shed. Not sure they can bounce back from that.

So JORR is it ok if we list Duke as better than the Illini now?

 Duke was playing chess while the Illini were having trouble setting up their game of checkers. Don’t remember a team having the bottom fall out like this squad. As a fan, it’s been tough to watch.

Duke was the only team I thought might be better than the Illini when I made the statement that the Illini were the best team in the country. But that seems like it was years ago. This is obviously not the same team. They're in complete disarray.

Just remember that they're still making the tourney and not going out in the first two rounds of the NIT / CBI.

I actually can remember another Illini team where the bottom fell out like this. 1978-79.

I think they may still make the Tournament, but I will reserve the possibility that I'll owe you an apology.

their NET ranking actually went up to 23 with a road loss to a top team

Jerry Palm has them as a 7 seed currently.

Wow, good call JORR. Just looked them up on Wikipedia and they had this blurb about the team.

In 1978-79 season, Illinois finished seventh in the Big Ten, but went 19-11 overall, including ascension to No. 2 in the national polls after starting the year 15-0. During this season, Illinois upset top-ranked Michigan State and Magic Johnson, 57-55, in one of the school’s most memorable games. It was during this season that Illinois also led the nation in field-goal percentage defense (.404).

Finished the season 4-11. I was born in 76 so wasn't aware of this squad at all. Became a fan around 1982-83 season.

My freshman year at Illinois. My memory of this is hazy.

These past few weeks have been very painful. A shame, as when Illinois is good it helps bridge the gap from football to warmer weather.

Dunderwood is a bad coach. He's kid is a bad assistant coach.

He can recruit but the talent is pissed away on going 0-30 from 3pt land and pooping their pants.

I didn’t tune in but see that the Illini won a game they were supposed to take. Couple of tough ones to wrap the regular season traveling to Ann Arbor Sunday and hosting Purdue next week. It’s looking like they will be a 7 or 8 seed depending on how the last few games go. Most people seem to think they are a lock for the tournament but if they manage to lose the next three I wouldn’t be so sure. Always like to see them hit 20 wins.

I hadn't thought of this until they mentioned it last night, but it would behoove them to move up from the 8-seed. Otherwise should they win the first 8-9 seed game they will play a 1 in their second game.

Yikes!

I could completely see them winning the first game, pulling a huge upset of a top seed, and then getting destroyed by some bum team that pulled an upset of its own in the third round.

Nice win last night but whew, Iowa is bad. I liked the concerted effort to feed Ivisic in a clear mismatch It appeared to me that Illinois could get to the rim whenever they wanted in this game which led to some wide-open kickout three's, some of which they actually made for a change. I was out of town and at the time disappointed i was unable to watch the Duke game, the only game all year I have missed. What a blessing that turned out to be.

I was at the game. Looks like I picked the right one to go to against mediocre Iowa. They've got one or two players.

Other than Tomislav, Tre, and Kylan, the Illini didn't look too good.

I got hit on by a grandma from Iowa. My son was in awe of his very cool dad.

 I’ll be tuning in today between golf. No idea what to expect and I know very little about the Wolverines. Would be a nice road win. Illini 3.5 point underdogs last time I checked.
