Ford is good. But the new linemen at Illinois will be the problem if there is one.

Define Good - I just dont think Jason Ford is anything more than an average Big Ten Back. He might start at NU for example, but he wouldn't start at Iowa over Marcus Coker.

I think he's too small to be effective at the next level. Will he make a team? Sure. Will he ever be a starter? Not sure.

bray reminds me of joe flacco in college but i could be very wrong ..persa is decent ..but he is coming off a serious injury and the way he plays with his feet and pump fakes/throwing on the run..he may very well get hurt again

You are soooo right. I've heard that there is a strong likelihood he snaps the other achilles (rather than reinjuring the first one). If nothing else, we know he used his feet more often than not to buy extra time to make those passes. He will have lost a step... no doubt. I'm just hoping the offensive line (one of the more experienced lines in the Big 10) will do a better job protecting him this year. If you looked at OC nut McCall's progression of QB's, you'll see much more pocket presence for Dan like you saw with Kafka in his senior year. Just harder to have that pocket presence when you are barely 6 foot (Kafka had to be 6'4"-ish?)

yeah..he is atough like able dude and busts his ass..but he is small and relies heavily on his escape abality(which may not be great anymore) hope he has a great season but i could see him getting hurt if he plays the same way as last season..like ya said hard to be a pocket passer when you can not see over the line

This year's offensive line should blow open holes for him. I'm really hoping for a 60/40 mix of run/pass to take pressure off Vandy and win games the old fashioned way - clock management. Coker could be the next 'Greene' at Iowa. His performance in the Insight Bowl was reminiscent of the Greene game against Wisconsin when he ran over people and ran away from people. (Greene that day was 25 for 217 and 4 TDs with this famous run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05pzZISDoyo get to the 2:00 minute mark and the 3:00 minute mark)

That's extrapolating a lot from one (admittedly impressive) performance, plus some decent games in Big Ten play. Plus, because he plays for Iowa he's definitely going to lose a limb at some point, so you have to factor that in.

Again, this is where Kirk Ferentz and I differ. Coker was the best RB on the field for Iowa against OSU but was afraid that he'd miss blitz pickup so stayed with Adam Robinson. Coker: 9 -73 1 TD He had a good game against Minny but fumbled late to cost them the game on that horrible field. 21 -94

I think his arrow is upwards and if they can afford the injury bug with him, he will be another strong RB for Iowa (again, especially with the line that is in place) If he gets hurt, there's not much behind him.

Don't be surprised when Wisconsin rolls into Champaign in the next-to-last game of the year when they are facing a 9-1, possibly 10-0, Illini football squad for the LEADERS Championship.
