Why not? If we're realistic, OSU isn't better than Alabama and would never beat them in a million years. If I were filling out a ballot, I'd have Auburn leapfrogging them and Alabama still in front of them. You're right that it probably won't happen that way, but it should.

College football rankings aren't realistic or objective though. If the Buckeyes take care of business they'll have the honor of getting blown out by the Seminoles.

Shit, Ohio State gave up 40 to Michigan. I don't care how many wins they eke out against NU and Iowa on their way to going undefeated in the Big Ten, I don't see how anyone could slot them ahead of Alabama. Of course, they will.

Has Urban Meyer started his poor me bitching and whining campaign yet? I hope Sparty throttles the fuck out of them.

Well if we are just going by who we think is the best then why even play the games? And I'd still have Alabama as #1. You get rewarded for not losing.

But that's not really right either, FF. Now you're making a case for NIU as Number 1.

The problem is voters aren't watching the games. I love my Buckeyes but their undefeated record is hollow. They're a paper tiger. A perfect game for them would be to play Clemson.

I think FSU should take on the winner of the SEC. The last team left standing from the best conference vs the best other team...FSU.

Ohio State No. 2 in coaches poll with 4 1st-place votes, 25-pt lead on No. 3 Auburn. Had 160-point edge last week.

This tells me Auburn will pass them next week if OSU wins but looks bad.

alowing 700 yards and 41 points to the Wolverines and you are #2? C'mon!

It's all going to come down to the computers...and I will not be surprised if they have Auburn leapfrog Ohio State.

Yes if both win next week.

Not really a fan of either team, but I would love to see a title game without the SEC.

So go FSU and OSU

Winston gets suspended after charges are brought, and OSU wins. Yay, Big Ten.

tOSU is a colossal joke. Especially on defense. They looked average against NU, UM & Iowa. Urban being Urban, he will cry about the lack of respect for his non-conference schedule, but never scheduled anyone tough out of conference while at Florida & won't here either, unless suitably(poorly) ranked this year. He (& they) are a fraud.

I've never rooted for Sparty, but I hope they kick the everlovin' shit out of tOSU.

Based on BCS projections coming out, Auburn likely passes OSU if they win next week.

The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas has Florida State favored by 9.5 over OSU, if they meet.

Yeah, I mean fuck OSU, but it's not like FSU's schedule was great. Yeah, Clemson was a better win than any OSU opponent, but Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, and Idaho are nothing to write home about. Again, Florida is a decent ooc game, but they stunk this year.

Why don't we just call whoever wins the SEC title game the national champion and then we can let OSU and FSU play for fifth place?

That would probably be more accurate right now. But you and I both know a team getting leapfrogged without losing isn't unprecedented. God help us if the second best team in the country is allowing 700 yards to Michigan. Anyway, there's more to who plays for the championship than just the polls. All those computer rankings and shit going into some formula. Maybe Irish Boy will show up and explain it to me.

I just hate how people basically assume the SEC deserves at least one spot in the title game. This has been out there all season. When any other team in any other conference(Oklahoma State is the best example) they are out of the picture. When an SEC team loses, they stay in the hunt because SEC SEC SEC. I even understand the Auburn stuff but people are already putting it out there that Missouri should jump OSU also. No one is doing that for Oklahoma State because NOT SEC NOT SEC NOT SEC.

I can't wait for the four team playoff where it is 3 or 4 SEC teams each year!

OK State belongs nowhere near this conversation Rick - their 1 loss is to 4-8 West Virginia.

Do you think Ohio State is better than Missouri? Ohio State's defense is such a shit show and Braxton can't throw. Green-Beckum would have a field day.

Though, I agree with your overall premise. Last year Big Ten held it's own against the SEC.

That is a bad loss but we are already excusing losses by perceived strength of the team. For the other games this season, OK State and Alabama are probably the two best teams in the country.

That's the problem when you start down the "loss doesn't elminate them because X".

If we were choosing the two best teams, I would put in Oklahoma State and Alabama.

If it's the two most deserving teams, I think OSU and FSU deserve it.

There are losses and then bad losses. Losing to a team that just dropped a game to Iowa State is a bad loss.

I get that. I'm just saying that people use the idea that a team can be "better" even with a loss. By that logic, I think Ok State and Alabama are still the two best teams.

But there's more to it than that. NIU won't have a loss and we know they aren't in the conversation.

I'm a Midwesterner, I went to Illinois, I'm a Big Ten guy. But I can't objectively say that the Big Ten is on the same level as the SEC right now. Now, dan bernstein will act as if that's the way it will always be and segue into his narrative about the bigger, faster, blacker studs. I don't believe that. Gerry DiNardo has some thoughtful things to say about the rise of the SEC. I don't think it's a permanent condition. You know a lot more about the economics than I do, but I believe that the Big Ten is still the most financially powerful conference and its biggest rival isn't even the SEC, but rather Texas football. Several years back when Big Ten hoops were down you heard some of the same stuff about basketball. But I would argue that last year the Big Ten was far and away the strongest basketball conference.
