Absolute disaster.
NIU was completely unprepared and out coached. The secondary has been NIU's weakness all year, and that was their worst game by far. Feel free to try and at least touch the QB once in while.

Totally made the 10 hours of driving I've done in the last 36 hours totally worth it. Assholes.

The burned out houses that line the expressways and homeless guys sleeping in the middle of the streets all around Comerica and Ford Field are a sight to behold though.

God bless ya. I wouldn't wish Detroit on anyone, not even NIU fans

Lots of rumors out there now that NIU will be heading to the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego where they will play either Fresno/San Jose St/Boise St.

I like NIU's chances vs. Boise, but the QB's at SJSU and Fresno will pass for 1,000 yards against this pathetic secondary.

Or the Potato Bowl in Boise. :|

Bowling Green gets for winning, probably a return trip to Detroit for the Little Caesaer's bowl

vs. Pittsburgh, more than likely.

I'd rather have NIU play that game.

Looks like Utah St. is going to the Poinsettia. That's a better matchup for NIU, but I still scratch my head as to why NIU would accept that bid.

Unless it is frigid or an all out blizzard, San Jose St. will kill whoever they get in Boise. (If that is indeed where San Jose ends up)

My Son & his Girlfriend went to Detroit for the game. They left early & went back to Chelis. At least they got to visit the pawn shop on Eight Mile where "Hardcore Pawn" is filmed! I was wondering though...why the hell did the MAC decide to play their championship game at Ford field? First of all its Detroit, & second of all it looked like there were about 10K people in attendance. They would be better off rotating the championship game between a few sites, or playing the game in the stadium of the the team with the best record.

This was discussed where we ate dinner also.

I disagree.

First - "rotating (neutral) site" wouldn't work for a conference like the MAC. There isn't enough interest. It needs a "home".

Secondly - it was something like 10 degrees last night in Dekalb on a Friday night. There would be significantly less people in Dekalb than there was in Detroit. Ford Field will never sell out for the MAC Championship game anyway, but one thing that hurts attendance is that NIU is one of the farthest schools away from Detroit in the conference, and they've been there 4 years in a row. I drove 5 hours from my house, and I'm probably 60-90 minutes closer than Dekalb is. The Bowling Green fans I talked to drove 90 minutes. There would have been about 1,000 BG fans if the game was in Dekalb.

Third - NFL Stadium = alcohol sales. This matters. For every conference.

The better answer is to drop the bowl tie-in with Detroit. No winning MAC school fan base wants to go back to Detroit for a bowl game 2 weeks later.

Were they selling Beer at Ford field for the Mac game? I thought NCAA rules prevented alcohol sales at NCAA events? Maybe not.

Prohibited on campus.

$9 (big) drafts of beer, and a line of 100+ people all game for the frozen drinks the entire game.

Alcohol sales are one of the biggest reasons the bowl games and NCAA tournament games make so much $$$.

Thats far better than the shitty bowl games the MAC teams go to. It will be a good game/good matchup to watch on TV. SD is too damn expensive for everyone to travel there though.

That was as bad of a game plan as I have seen. He gave up on the run almost immediately when they weren't busting 10 yards per carry. They were still getting 4 ypc and could have walked down the field all day on BG. Instead, he saw BG quick striking and panicked.

The MAC championship seems to really hurt the conference. It can't make them that much money either. I guess you pretty much have to have one now though. They probably could benefit from having the game played at the school with the highest ranking though to lessen the chance of upsets like this.

Ball State had a season ruined based on it too though that Ball State team wasn't nearly as good as this NIU team.

I also hate how Midwestern conferences who play every single game outdoors decide to have a championship game indoors.

True, but the conditions at least are somewhat similar.

You build a team to win games outdoors in October and November and then the champion is decided indoors on field turf.
