I saw this the other day...
I also read that Jerry Kill had to pay NIU $500k to leave his deal, which seems like a lot considering his salary at Minny is only $500k, but it seems he has a number of other income streams.

Yesterday in USA Today, the paper published its annual salaries for football coaches at 120 schools.
What does your football coach make at your favorite Big Ten school?
Ron Zook (Illinois) - $1,508,500 total compensation with a $52,650 maximum bonus
Bill Leach (Indiana) - $650,000 total compensation with a $450,000 maximum bonus
Kirk Ferentz (Iowa) - $3,781,000 total compensation with a $1,750,000 maximum bonus
Rich Rodriguez (Michigan) - $2,525,280 total compensation with a $300,000 maximum bonus
Mark Dantonio (Michigan State) - $1,796,700 total compensation with a $660,000 maximum bonus
Tim Brewster (Minnesota) - $808,000 total compensation with a $1,050,000 maximum bonus
Jim Tressel (Ohio State) - $3,888,389 total compensation with a $450,000 maximum bonus
Joe Paterno (Penn State) - $1,109,977 total compensation with undisclosed maximum bonus
Danny Hope (Purdue) - $900,000 total compensation with a $637,250 maximum bonus
Bret Bielema (Wisconsin) - $1,781,759 total compensation with a $350,000 maximum bonus
And the winner is?
Kirk Ferentz. The second-longest Big Ten tenured coach signed a contract extension in September until 2020 that pays him $3,675,000 annually plus a longevity bump that begins at $325,000 and increases annually.
He reached a milestone of 100 wins this season in the Indiana game.
Notes:
Total compensation includes university and non-university
--Northwestern is a private university and therefore doesn't have to share Fitzgerald's salary.
--While Leach and Brewster are gone, I thought it would still be interesting to include the salaries to get an overall comparison of the Big Ten.
--Last season at NIU, Minnesota's new coach Jerry Kill had $347,812 total compensation with a $205,000 maximum bonus. At Minnesota, Kill will have a base salary of $500,000, $600,000 for public outreach and endorsements and hundreds of thousands more, depending on how the season goes.
