northwestern looks like they may not be bad and depaul might actually be good

its going to take loyola a bit of time to gell as they went heavily into the portal

uic is not terrible. They always seem to have a lot of foreign players

I simply cannot understand how Chicago St. can be as bad as they are playing in a city with plenty of talent to spread around and in a hick conference

Terrible administration and lack of resources. They also are now an independent in all sports.

We had an athlete offered a partial scholarship by Chicago St. His dad also worked at Chicago St. His dad would not allow him to go there. He instead went to another school as a regular student.

I understand their administrative difficulties but you would think they'd be able to cobble together talent like a Last Chance U situation of guys who aren't at bigger schools for a number of reasons

Have you looked at the number of transfers they have?

4 transfers from D1, couple Juco, bunch of prep school kids. They are already there, but not as good as that Last Chance U team.

Depaul knocked off Minnesota the other night. Solid win, but they've done this to us for a couple years in a row: dominate the non-conference schedule and crap the bed in the Big East. If they can just go .500 in the Big East, they would be into something good.

Disappointing loss to a Santa Clara team that just lost by 22 against Utah State.

It sucks that DePaul and Loyola aren't going to play again next year. That game needs to be played every year. It would even be nice if they expanded it out, a la Philadelphia, and included Northwestern, UIC, and Chicago State. If there was one dominant program in town, I can see it not wanting to elevate its rivals, but there really isn't a dominant program.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Fwiw, Mississippi St has better odds to win a title than any of the local schools. Shameful.

Collins has been there a long time for a guy with a sub .500 record.

10 years, Carmody had 13 with a worse record and no trips to the tournament. I don't remember if they fired O'Neil or not as I was out of the area and not following all but its not like it a long and glorious history there. Have to go back pretty far to find a coach with a .500 record overall and its even worse in conference. Go Cats! It always seemed like basketball should be a sport they could more readily compete in but it just hasn't worked out.

Big win today for the cats. Surprising.

I'd take the opposite approach and say 8 games under in 10 years at Northwestern is remarkable.

Collins has done a really good job there. He has them playing well. Their offense kicked the crap out of the IU defense.

This whole Woodson thing is growing old really quick. Seems like the same ole story in Bloomington as the last several seasons. Show some promise and then fall apart in the Big 10 season. They will probably end up on the bubble of the tournament

"Adequate" may be the better adjective than "remarkable." I know their history, but I'm going to need to see NCAA Tournament appearances at a clip greater than one every ten years. We'll see, maybe he gets them there this year and boosts the average.
