Harbaugh to Tuscaloosa, Bears gonna trade Fields to Alabama for exclusive rights to their next 3 players to be 1st round picks. Kalen DeBoer seems the best option. If I were any of them, I'd let someone else be the first guy to try to follow Saban. Wait a couple years until the first guy flames out and fans have moved on from Saban a bit more. |

didn’t realize he was 72 years old. That’s about 12 years past the time I want to retire I know that. |

that's true. saban was expert at the Ingram type situation where he'd identify a player early on, befriend the parents/grandparents/family, help em out on the side and then the players would feel indebted to Saban to play for him. Now it's a pure $$$'s bidding war Saban can't win from Tuscaloosa. |

Since Bob has me on ignore, I will post it here. Saban had more 1st round draft picks at Alabama (44), than he did losses. (29) |

He probably had the second best team in the country at the end of the year |

People will now see that no program is on automatic. Saban's ability as a coach was a big reason that program was so good. Take a look at the last three coaches before him: Mike Shula, Dennis Franchione and Mike Dubose. There was some mediocre football at Alabama for a decade and there was far less parity back then. No person they hire will have the immediate gravitas of Saban, so what's the reason to go to alabama over georgia, ohio state, etc.? and the MIGHTY SEC is a far different conference if Alabama isn't the bell cow with another team in the top 5 giving competition. Say they hire someone like Kiffen. I think he'd bring competent football but not championship football and Ole Miss would go into the shitter. Sure, Georgia now becomes THE program. What's behind them? They are lucky to have brought in Texas and Oklahoma next year. |

I think they only way they avoid a drop off is if they somehow convince Smart to leave Georgia That stat about more first round picks than losses is INSANE |

After that, all bets are off. SEC dominance is a more interesting question. It wasn't that long ago the non-SEC teams were the dominant teams in the country. However, the SEC is so huge now, I think they're pretty well guaranteed a top four team (to the extent that even matters anymore) for the foreseeable future. |

RFDC wrote: That stat about more first round picks than losses is INSANE It sounds more insane than it is. Without going back to guys like Bear Bryant or Woodie Hayes... Urban Meyer was 83-9 at OSU and had 12 players selected in the 1st rd. Ryan Day is 56-7 at OSU and has had 10 players selected in the 1st rd. |

He coached a hell of a lot longer or has than either one of those. |
