He has to be fired right? There is no possible way that he is retained. Not only would they have to retain him but since he has one year left on his deal they would have to extend him which would look like the worst contract extension in college history beating Charlie Weis getting a big extension for "almost beating USC". He would be useless recruiting on a lame duck year.

I didn't watch the game as there were other bad teams to watch lose but it looks like Bret Bielema is really a jerk. I guess that is what he feels he needs to do to prove a point. I'm sure the entire conference was quite impressed.

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/badgers/107820924.html

From the link:

And that last score, a 17-yard naked bootleg, was from a quarterback so far down the depth chart you wouldn't know him at all if not for his last name. Nate Tice is the son of Mike Tice, the former Minnesota Vikings head coach and current Chicago Bears offensive line coach.

And, yes, Tice could've scored even behind dad's beleaguered charges.

So what are you going to do?

"We put our younger guys in and they played hard, too," said guard John Moffitt. "You can't coach a guy to not play hard."

Or, as Montee Ball put it, "It's not our job to stop scoring."

BTW, here is a link to the IU board with some very reasonable fans:

http://indiana.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?f ... Override=1

Score looked bad, but I'm guessing you didn't watch it. I was there. IU visibly began giving up. The final scores by the Badgers were accomplished by players I hadn't ever heard of.

The BCS sucks, and this is a good reason why. But IMO, it had to be done. Got some attention, that's for sure.

What is Wisconsin's complaint with the BCS? Didn't Wisconsin lose a game this year?

Ultimately, scoring 83 on Indiana only hurts the conference reputation by being an answer to the "Boise doesn't play anyone good" thing.

No complaint. But how you win affects your BCS ranking. The Badgers would prefer to have the highest ranking possible, IMO. While I'm all for conference pride, you don't tell your 3rd stringers to lay down to protect the conference. "IT'S DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL!" Gotta play ball.

But again, I'm assuming you didn't watch the game.

I think my friend told me that Wisconsin basketball did that once last season.

I have stated on here before, the Wisconsin game does not bother me. I am glad they got pounded and hope it gets Lynch gone sooner.

Irregardless of that game,Wisconsin's coach is still an ass. Explain it any way you like, but his reputation for being an ass is growing. I look forward to the day when one of the big dogs of the Big 10 or the nation put a ass whooping on them.

I actually agree with some of your sentiment. BB has done some ass-ish things, but this isn't one of them. It just isn't.

BB's personality reminds me a lot of Cutler, actually.

How does scoring 83 on Indiana improve the BCS rating?

As for "laying down" there is a difference between running the ball and doing some throwing and going deep late in a game that's been over for a long time.

In reading your posts I sense that you believe that he did in fact run up the score and it's what he should have done.

The coaches poll is an element of the BCS. Getting attention to the program helps that, for one.

And again, you didn't watch the game, Rick. I just linked you to an entire thread full of IU fans who all admit UW didn't run it up.

You know what would help the Big Ten most? Purdue, Indiana and Minnesota not sucking at football.

From Terry Hutchens of the Indy Star:

Quote:
Can Lynch Survive 83 points?

I’ve never been one to call for a coach’s job. I’m not starting now. I know that bothers some of you who are constantly on me to call for Bill Lynch‘s ouster as IU’s head coach. Sorry, but I’ve never seen that as my job. Our columnist handles the opinion side of things just fine. And if that’s not enough then the fan base, as displayed often in this blog space, fills that role just fine as well.

But the question still begs to be asked today: Can Bill Lynch survive Indiana’s 83-point debacle Saturday in Madison?

I know that Fred Glass is on the record as saying he wants to honor contracts. And I think that’s important. But 83 points? Yikes. I don’t know how coaches on solid ground survive 83 points.

Glass told me as he walked off the field Saturday that he will evaluate football at the end of the season the same way he evaluates all sports. As Rick Greenspan used to say, he didn’t want to get too high with the high’s or too low with the low’s. He wanted to evaluate the season as a complete body of work. I believe that to be Glass’s approach as well.

Here are the problems moving forward. If Glass was to make a change, the coach coming in is going to have a tough road his first couple of years. You look at next year and a lot of this offense could be gone. Ben Chappell will graduate as will Terrance Turner. The other top two receivers, Tandon Doss and Damarlo Belcher, could essentially declare for the NFL Draft. I’m not saying they will but they could. If the offense is that depleted, it’s going to be tough on whatever staff comes in. Especially considering a defense that was thought to have been making strides just gave up 83 points.

If Lynch comes back, he’ll be a lame duck coach trying to recruit without a contract extension. And the stories out there will focus on who the next coach will be. That would be a tough road for any coach as well.

So what will happen? Not sure. There’s still two games to be played and a lot of evaluation on the part of Glass. I know what the majority of people on this site would like to see happen, but what do you think Glass will actually do? That’s a question to ponder.

So are you saying by scoring 83 points on Indiana that you will move up in the human polls over teams that also won? What if you had only scored 60? Would it have been different?
Bucky Chris wrote:

There is always going to be a team that doesn't win much in the Big Ten. If those three teams were good then three others would be the bottom three. I don't get your point.

Here's the ironic thing about the whole recruiting as a lame duck coach at IU. Will this really hurt their recruiting? I haven't looked at most of the people IU recruits but from past experience, they are mostly battling upper tier MAC schools for guys rather than going head to head with tOSU, UM, even Purdue and ND.

I just wish you would have watched the game. Or listened to everyone else. The blame here really isn't on UW. It's on IU. Like I think it is, like their fans think is, like just about everyone thinks it is. When a 4th string slow QB I have never heard of scrambles for a TD, I just don't have an answer. You can't start kneeling with 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.

And yes, I personally believe the 83 points could have an impact in the long run. I also see absolutely no negative impact for Wisconsin. Might get the attention of some Coaches and AP voters. Does that directly mean they will jump spots? Of course not. This week I doubt if UW even jumps a single spot in the BCS.

You think Bret is a meanie, I get it. I'm not going to change your mind and I couldn't care less, Rick. I realllllly don't want to fight with you.

Am I wrong or didn't you throw the ball deep for the second to last touchdown?

It's never running up the score when you run the ball. I'm not talking about the last touchdown.

Turns out I have a few more minutes....

It was 3rd and 16 on the touchdown pass. It was a shitty backup QB to a backup WR. It was a TERRRRIIBBBLLLE throw that should have and could have been picked off. Total lame duck pass.

Dude, the Badgers scored on literally... EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION. Do you expect them just to turn the ball over because they feel bad?

From an AP story: Lynch didn't believe Wisconsin tried to run up the score, something former Minnesota coach Tim Brewster accused Bret Bielema of earlier this season. "I've always felt it was our job to stop the team and play the game," Lynch said. "We didn't do that very well."

Some coaches would have run the ball on 3rd and 16 up by 50. I guess I won't say any more though since you reallllllllllllly don't want to fight with me.

I've just never seen a guy so edgy when he just watched his team not run up the score before but still won big.

Just a note on scoring 83 points on Indiana to help you in the BCS ranking.

Week 11:
6. Stanford .7454
7. Wisconsin .7349

Wisconsin scores 83 on Indiana.
Stanford wins by 4.
Week 12:
6. Stanford .7553
7. Wisconsin .7258

It looks like "not running up the score" didn't help you in the BCS at all.

There was an IMO, at the end. It was supposed to be sarcastic. Then I realized you would take it out of context. I changed my mind in like 3 seconds. Surprised you are refreshing that fast. Ok, I'm not.

Alright, in all seriousness Rick.

Do you mind calling BB this week to tell him how many points to score, to preserve the delicate reputation of the Big Ten?
