These are highly speculative and based on these ideas:
MSU: Wins out
Wisconsin: Wins out
OSU: Wins out
Iowa: 1-1 (L to OSU)
Illinois: 1-1 (L to Fresno)
Michigan: 0-2 (L to OSU, Wisc)
NU: 0-2 (L to ILL, W)

By virtue of highest BCS rank, Wisconsin heads to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl
Other BCS Bowl: tOSU wins out over MSU for a BCS bid
Cap One: MSU
Outback: Penn State: Bone tossed to JoePa in what might be his final game
Gator: Michigan - Gator needs a new sponsor and will want the highest ratings possible to sell the next sponsor on the bowl. Uses the 1 win rule in the Big Ten to pick a lower team
Insight: Iowa - Phoenix can't pass on the Hawkeyes
Houston: NU - Can't pick 6 win ILL over 7 win team.
Dallas - ILL - Zook makes it back to a bowl.
Pizza Pizza - no representative. Iowa State can go here.

Hawkeye Vince, I think you are right on most of your picks, I do see Wisconsin winning out, little worried about Michigan State at Penn State. If Ohio State wins Saturday, and 3 way tie, Wisconsin to Rose Bowl and Ohio State to Sugar Bowl.

I could see a swith of Michigan and Penn State, last year the Gator took FSU in Bowden's final game, may want back-to-back years of coach's last game.

I don't. NU is going to run up the score on Wisco. Send Bielema back to the Hayden Frye school of sportsmanship.

I'm still standing by these after Iowa decided to allow Pryor to convert on a 4th and 10 in the 4th quarter. They deserve the shitty bowl bid they get. 4 loses by 15 points, 3 in the big 10 by 8 points.

Serious question:

how does the new "Dallas Bowl" get the priority to pick a Big Ten team over the Pizza Bowl that has been around longer and had a longer "contract" with the conference?

I'm really hoping to get to see a Big Ten team in that bowl (if NIU is there) and not UL-Monroe that most predictions have.

edit: for bad punctuation :eye:

How? It's all about the Benjamins. TicketCity 'Dallas' Bowl pays 1.2M and Pizza Pizza Bowl pays 750K.

Yeah I get that from the Big Ten's point, but if I'm the Pizza Bowl and I have a contract that says I get Big Ten team #6, then how does another bowl swoop in and steal that? Unless Dallas gives Detroit a cut of $$ too, right?

Even if all 3 win out, I have a tiny but of concern about OSU jumping us in the BCS. Based on the BCS today, I don't think they will considering the Iowa win would certainly tip the scales more than a win at home against Michy. But if some of the other top teams (LSU) lose, I'm worried OSU could pick up some votes.

Of course at this point, it's just Win Baby Win and let the shit take care of itself.

Question: will the Rose Bowl award the spot to a Big Ten team this weekend? Love when teams get the roses on field and get to celebrate... but I wonder if they would hold off considering the 3 way tie.

I am guessing that the Roses are provided by the team and not by the Rose Bowl. They can't announce anything until the BCS is final. In 2002, Iowa ran the table in the Big Ten and the team had roses at the Metrodome but ended up at the Orange Bowl. My guess is the Badgers will have roses when they step off the field Saturday.

They re-upped the deal in April of this year and agreed to take #8 from the Big Ten. No stealing here.

Ah, I get it now. The deal with Detroit was ending, so Dallas moved in.

So help me, if I have to see UL-Monroe......I also saw predictions for Tennessee too, so that would be cool. I never saw Iowa State going there.

Post subject:  Re: Big Ten Bowl Predictions

There was predictions for Iowa State at one time, but they ended 5-7 - no bowl bid. Once the Big ten doesn't have a #8, the bowl can take the best at large team. So that leaves 6-6 from a big conference that fills its bids or a winning team from a small conference.

I will also add to the Dallas bowl getting a better pick of the Big 10 than the pizza bowl, it could be that the Dallas Bowl is on New Year's Day.

Well since this will start to heat up this week, it looks like Wisconsin vs TCU in the Rose, but will throw this out Rod Gilmore on the BCS show last Sunday that some last minute deals could always be made, I know a rule that the Rose has to take the highest non AQ team, but could the Rose try to get Stanford vs Wisconsin.

Sugar will be Ohio State probably vs Arkansas

Capitol One could be Michigan State vs Alabama

Reading some things today
the Gator could take Penn State
if Auburn wins, Iowa vs South Carolina in Outback Bowl
Illinois and Northwestern not sure, maybe waiting until after Friday's game vs Fresno State.

Post subject:  Re: Big Ten Bowl Predictions

I'm hearing Iowa back to the Outback Bowl. PSU to the Gator. Michigan to the Insight and if Illinois wins, they will bump NU for the Dallas Bowl.

The Texas Bowl in Houston picks before the TicketCity in Dallas, and even if Illinois loses on Friday, the Texas Bowl will not take Nortwestern w/out Persa over Illinois. There's probably a 90% chance Illinois ends up in Houston.

On the bowls, off topic, but since I think there's a San Diego State fan on the board, it sounds like San Diego State will play Navy in the Poinsetta Bowl in San Diego.

Also what could be intresting, Nevada may get to play in the Humanitarian Bowl that is played at Boise State.

Michigan State is really getting screwed here. 1-0 vs. the other two teams they tied with and both are probably going to the BCS while they get the consolation prize.

I believe the most fair thing would be MSU to the Rose Bowl and Wisconsin getting the other bid.

Hawkeye Vince, when you started this and talking about Gator with the new sponsor wanting a high t.v. ratings, well they may have Michigan vs Tennesee, if true, must want a sell-out too.

Not bad - missed only on the Houston/Texas games.

Iowa got a tough matchup in the Insight bowl against Mizzou.

The good news: 5 Big Ten team play on New Year's Day this year.

The bad news: There is only 6 games total on New Years Day, and that's with the addition of the new on ethat NW is playing. There should always be more than that.

Sounds like bad news/bad news to me. I could watch the Big Ten Network at 11 am during the regular season to see the quality of games being offered on New Year's Day.

New Year's Day has become a sad vestige of the bowl season. At this point, I'm up for scrapping the whole shitty Jan 1 schedule and making New Year's Eve the centerpiece.

I think that the Outback, Capital One, Gator, and then finished with an intriguing Rose Bowl is going to be awesome. Three Big Ten/SEC matchups and a really good TCU team.

The bad is more from the fact that other than the top 3, the Big ten was full of underachievers (Iowa, Penn State, UM) and the SEC has plenty as well. (Florida 7-5 in Outback?, Miss St (Who Cares?))

I would actually disagree on your underachievers Vince, I thought Penn State would be bad, didn't think Michigan would do as well, and Iowa I agree on that one. The worse thing for an Iowa fan is when you look back and especially if they beat Missouri, you could have gone undefeated, who knows what happens if Iowa makes the extra point against Zona and lead 28-27, and just had to stop Wisco, Ohio State, Northwestern, and Minnesota on 1 drive. It's dissapointing and frustrating, but I think most teams in the big 10 would like those problems.

On the Big 10 Bowls, I am thinking 4-4, I like them to win the 2 BCS games, along with Michigan, Illinois,Nortwestern, Penn State to lose, and Iowa-Missouri and Michigan State-Alabama are toss ups, but a split and that's 4-4.
