Saw this kid on TV tear up Mt. Carmel his Junior Year in the State Semifinals at Gately. His team was heavy underdogs going into that game.

There is a lot of things to like about the kid, not the least of which is his height (6'6") and his arm strength. While considered a pro-style QB, the kid can run... perhaps not nearly as well as Kafka and Persa though. He doesn't have the same moxie as Persa, but I think he'll do quite well. I met him at the Spring game... couldn't be nicer. I hope his debut isn't a shellacking.

The two backups are true freshman. Trevor Siemian from Florida is a traditional drop back passer. Kain Colter from Colorado is more of a running QB. The two-deep lists Siemian OR Colter as the backup.

I'll take the Illini and buy the .5 point.

The line is Illini -7.5 now... I'd bet it would be NU-2 if Persa was healthy.

My guess is it would have been a pick. Was -3.5 before the Saturday games. Moving from -3.5 to even would be a huge switch itself...maybe too huge, for just two data points, though those data points are about as divergent as they get.

Remember though that Northwestern nearly lost to Minnesota and did lose to Purdue and @ Penn State. These teams are probably pretty closely matched w/ Persa: capable of losing to lots of teams, and capable of beating most too.

You could also make an argument that NU is two plays from being 9-1 at this point. I'm not sayin'... just sayin'.
