Collegefootballtalk.com is saying Luke Fickell, Ohio State's defensive coordinator as a serious canidate.

I only brought up Bill Cubit's name because I heard before the season he would take over Illinois if Zook was gone.

One of the names brought up that could be intresting is Brady Hoke, made Ball State good and turned around San Diego State, but there was talk last week about him going to Minnesota.

Minny can have Hoke, I have had enough of former Ball State coaches.

I kinda hope IU goes and gets a big name, I know IU hasn't done much in football, but it is kinda of nice to see some teams do something., that don't do it often.

Why would Jim Harbaugh want to coach Illinois? He has his sights set on bigger & better things as he will be one of the hot head coaching candidates & will be able to choose between numerous opportunities in both college & the NFL. Illinois would be a huge step backwards for Harbaugh.
Illinois "went big" when they hired Zook. They'll probably hire a no name this time.
If Illinois is serious about competing they hire Mike Leach.
The rest of the guys on the list are just guys.

Yea...I know...But IU is irrelevant when it come to college football so I figured you got the U & I out of order.

Why is Hoke on alot of these lists? He must remain at San Diego State where he has them relevant for the first time since Faulk was there.

He left Ball State for money. I'm sure IU would pay more than SDSU.

I assume that must have come off the Indiana fan boards since that sounds like some fan lunacy.

If they are going to look at other non-BCS coaches they should look at Jeff Bower.

He had something like 12 (?) straight winning season at USM before being fired for not winning enough. They need a program builder who will stay there 7-10 years.

Troy Calhoun may be the Colorado coach, Tommy Bowden could be intresting, I don't know if Randy Edsall leaves UConn for IU, but before the season I guess there was talk of him maybe going to Michigan if they got rid of Rodriguez.

On Al Golden, you looked hot during the season, but Temple has fallen off, so it may be the time for him to leave.

Obviously I think a lot of it depends on what kinda cash they are willing to come up with for the coach. I listened to a little of the Dan Dakich radio show today and he says that Glass is willing to commit 3 or 4 million a year for their next coach. I have a REAL hard time believing that, but if that is true then the interested list of coaches just expanded.

My question is this AD the one that hired Crean, because that was nice hire or was it a diffrent AD. My point if he was the one, then the guy does think a little about his coach and not get a no-name.

Crean was hired by Rick Greenspan. This will be the first real major hire for Glass.

Thanks RFDC, So Glass may want to make a big splash.

So Lynch wins the Oaken Bucket and is fired while Hope just trudges along at Purdue.

That ain't right.

Hope hasn't been there that long, that's probably the reason he will survive and he will have injuries as the excuse. It also helps Hope that nobody that works at the newspaper or t.v., in Lafayette wants to ask the question or write anything about it.

The newspaper just put that they had close losses, but the paper had reported that their would be less than 50,000 at the game this past weekend and it sounded to me on t.v. that the IU crowd was louder When you look at next year's schedule, it could be another 4 win year.

I'm shocked it works for Georgia Tech in the ACC, but I just can't see it being effective week in and week out. And talk about not being able to use your personnel since IU has spread type personnel.

The U should hire him

Two names that are interesting to me and could work for IU

Jerry Kill and Kevin Sumlin.

I think Kill could do good work at IU, being able to leverage recruiting relationships he has built at NIU.

As for Sumlin, he has ties back to Indiana (Purdue alum) and might be able to bring some good football to Bloomington.

Good point, but it is not like IU has had a ton of success with the current direction. Why not try something new?

I seriously doubt it happens, but I would not be opposed to it.

Saw Jerry Kill's name mentioned for the first time today. Columnist for the Indy Star says the reason why he might not get considered is the fact that he has had cancer that is currently in remission.

Here is the thing....perhaps they should go the Barry Alvarez route....Go out and get the best DC you can find that wants a program and let him build it. The offense focus thing isn't working, perhaps it's time to go into a another direction. Alvarez took a doormat to the Rose Bowl and made Wisky relevant again.

I have seen OSU's and Mich State's DC mentioned in the last couple of days.

 One of my favorite things about following a coaching search is the plane searches. This comes from an Indy Star columnist.

Quote:
A private plane from Norman, Okla. took off this morning at 8:33 a.m. and arrived in Indy at 10:07. The same plane arrived in Norman at about 7:30 this morning.

Is it Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson coming up for an interview with Fred Glass, or more? Or is it just a very strange coincidence? Hard to say but still worth reporting.

Wilson seems to be the name that is being discussed more than anyone else, but this seems to be the M.O. for coaching searches. A hot name pops up and people follow it until the talk has been completely exhausted.

As soon I get something a little more concrete, I’ll definitely get it posted in this space.

I'd be extremely nervous about Sumlin. Dana Holgerson may have been driving that offense down there. Houston wasn't even bowl eligible this year, and while they did lose Keenum, that team was still more talented than some of the squads to which they lost.
