According to Lindsey Willhite of the Daily Herald...

That was quick!

Northern Illinois has hired Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Doeren as its head football coach, according to a source.

The Mid-American Conference team will introduce Doeren Monday at a news conference scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.

Doeren replaces Jerry Kill, who left Northern Illinois after three seasons to become Minnesota's head coach.

Reported at rivals.com as well that it is the Wisconsin DC.

I don't think Fleck is ready yet for a head coaching position at this level. I know he was given an interview but it may have been out of courtesy.

From Tom Dienhart of Rivals.com chat:

Q: What do you think about Dave Doeren going to NIU?

A: I like it. Almost every coach I talk to loves this job. Good facilities, a place you can win at. Doeren was ready for a move. He is an intense coach and great defensive mind. The big question: Can he build a staff??? That will determine his success. He won't have much money to work with.

If an NIU Press Conference happens, and no one is around to hear it, does it really happen?

The coaching staff is starting to take shape.

Yesterday it was announced that interim head coach Tom Matukewicz will stay at NIU to coach LB's, even though he received an offer from Kill to join him in Minny.

Also, footballscoop is reporting that Indiana offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Matt Canada will be the new offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois
