Florida, UCLA and TCU are all returning a bunch of regulars from last season and should have no problems reaching the CWS for the second year in a row. Vanderbilt (my pick to win it all) may have the best rotation in the country (Gray, Garvin, Armstrong) and plenty of hitting for a run at it's first CWS appearance. Defending champ S. Carolina lost a bunch of pitching and a return to the CWS will be difficult. Stanford is a team to keep an eye on. They're young and extremely talented and if they mature could make a run at the CWS.

Keyser, I may have to jump on the bandwagon of the Vanderbilt Commodores too, they have a shitload of talent. Thanks for posting this, also cool to see some of top players from small colleges like Bethune-Cookman.

Unless I missed him or he's in a diffrent division, suprised no Garrett Wittles on those lists, or do his summer issues have something to do with that.

Post subject:  Re: BA preseason top 25

Wittles is a third baseman so there is no way he makes the 1st or 2nd team ahead of Rendon or Esposito. The rape charge may have kept him off the 3rd team but Harold Martinez is no slouch (.295 21 HR's 69 RBI).

The first weekend is in the books. Florida and UCLA stay 1-2 after perfect weekends. Vandy moved up a spot after going 4-0 vs San Diego St and San Diego while TCU dropped a spot after a 2-1 series vs Kansas (tough rankings). #8 Stanford moved up 5 spots after winning a home series (2-1) against #22 Rice. #14 Connecticut dropped 5 spots after going 1-2 in the Big East/Big 10 challenge. Unranked Arkansas took care of business going 3-0 at home against Delaware St. Tulane dropped out of the top 25 and North Carolina (4-0) moved in at #24.

Minnesota has a chance to be pretty good. I wouldn't be surprised to see them enter the top 25 at some point this season.

Wins are wins, Hawger. I read a couple publications who were high on the Hogs (no pun intended). All the power is in the SEC east this year and if LSU stumbles they can win the SEC west.

Any of you guys have recommendations for food/stuff worth catching in Omaha? Heading there for a tournament that wraps up on the first Sunday of the CWS....and well as for Nebraska, I got nothing.

#1 Florida continues to dominate and is still on top of the rankings. Vandy moved up to #2 after winning a home series against #9 Stanford. UCLA dropped to #5 after losing a home series to San Jose St and TCU dropped to #8 after losing a home series vs #7 Cal St Fullerton (tough rankings). Oklahoma and S Carolina move into the top 5 after perfect weekends at home. Somehow Texas remains at #6 despite a 5-3 record. The Horns have a tough matchup this weekend at Stanford. #22 UConn dropped 8 spots after losing to Oregon St and Indiana. #24 Fresno St and #25 UC Irvine enter the top 25 while St Johns and Miami fall out. Arkansas remains perfect on the season after sweeping Utah at home.

The Hogs are doing what they're supposed to be doing, Hawger. Racking up wins before they go through the SEC meatgrinder. Utah is no pushover and they beat them with a freshman pitcher starting friday night and sunday. This is going to be a fun year.

If those young kids can pitch, they might be alright. Just a lot to put on a couple of freshman.

This is from a Baseball America on line chat with Aaron Fitt. He's one of the writers who compile the top 25 list.

J (Arkansas): I know Arkansas hasn't really played anybody yet, but the freshmen look really good so far. The pitching, though young, seems deeper than the past couple years. How good can this team be by the end of the year?

Aaron Fitt: Very talented young team — I'm looking forward to getting a look at them out here in SoCal in two weeks, especially Ryne Stanek. If the youngsters hold up, that team has a chance to win the SEC West and make a nice postseason run.

You usually don't worry too much about losing a weekday game but that one was started by Jr. Geoffrey Davenport who us supposed to be one of the weekend starters if not the friday night starter. Hopefully it was just a blip on the radar.

Tuesday was a weird day in college baseball. Not only did Arkansas lose to McNeese St, TCU lost to Dallas Baptist (??), Oregon lost to Portland, Miami lost to S. Florida, Baylor lost to Texas St. and #1 Florida lost to Florida St.

Third straight week for #1 Florida. The rest of the top 4 stayed the same with Texas moving up to #5 after a series win over #12 Stanford. UCLA dropped 8 spots to #13 after losing 2 straight series at home. Previously #15 Oregon dropped out of the top 25 after a 1-4 week and new #15 North Carolina jumped up 8 spots after a 5-0 week. #19 UConn righted the ship after a 2-0 week including a win at #20 California. #24 Tulane and #25 Georgia Tech entered the top 25 for the first time after winning a series at Mississippi and sweeping a home series against Rutgers respectively. Oregon and UC Irvine dropped out of the top 25. Unranked Arkansas went 4-1 this week with a 2 game split against McNeese St and a sweep of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

5 straight weeks for Florida at #1. The rest of the top 5 remained the same as all teams took care of business this weekend. #7 Virginia and #8 LSU move into the top 10 after sweeping #16 Clemson and #13 Cal St Fullerton respectively. Preseason #2 UCLA dropped all the way to #24 after losing it's 3rd straight weekend series. Hard to believe considering they were CWS finalists last season and returned two of the top starting pitchers in the country in Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer. No new teams entered the top 25. Unranked Arkansas won its weekend series 3-1 at San Diego St.
