It's hard to measure recruiting success. I think the star system is seriously flawed. The only real measure is the quality of the kid's other offers. NU has gone from abysmal to pretty good in that regard, and I want to give Fitz credit for getting in with some of this nation's top recruits. But is it enough to be in the kid's final list? Or do you count the near misses? It's obviously a rhetorical question, because it is completely subjective.

Nonetheless, I'm really pleased that we are getting into the final 4 lists of some 4-star recruits who eventually pick dOSU, Notre Dame, and Michigan. We had a few close ones for several four stars over the last few years... getting into the final 2 or 3. Recently Barrington, IL's Dan Voltz said,
"This weekend I made my top eight," Voltz said. "Right now it's Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern, Michigan State, Auburn, and Alabama."

A decade ago, it was a pipe dream to even get this far. So it's my opinion that Fitz is doing good things with a program that, for all it's history, should be a Big Ten cellar dweller. But to take this program to the next level, he needs to start landing a few of these guys. Perhaps Fitz needs to learn Ron Zook's voodoo magic.

Word on the street is that Voltz might announce early. Maybe even as early as tomorrow evening. Just visited NU this past weekend. Hopefully that means good news for the Cats.
