Based on that photo, he's not getting any younger. Besides, he's been on the NCAA hit list for years dating back to when he won at UNLV and all the alleged recruiting issues during his tenure.

Besides Shaka Smart, who could very well have just had a fluke run, that list should scare Illini fans.

Brad Stevens is obviously the #1 choice but who knows if he is interested especially given that Illini would eat him up for a lack of "recruiting Chicago" too.

The Board of Trustees basically told Thomas the next time he hires a mens bball or football coach, they better be a minority after several of them voted "no" to his hiring of Tim Beckman for that reason. So look for the next coach to be a minority.

If I was Thomas I would tell them to fire him if they don't like his hire but he's picking the best person he can.

He's the one who gets fired for bad choices.

I could see making a play for Danny Manning - has the pedigree, rising assistant, fits the minority qualification.

Midwest guy, was at Akron same time AD Mike Thomas was. Illinois being a better job than NC State is with recruiting Chicago.

Recruiting Chicago is not an advantage for Illinois or any school. Calipari will pay the best players to leave and go to him, and Kansas and the other perennial powers will cherry pick a player or two who is worth and then you are fighting for the scraps while dealing with the recruiting issues that goes with it.

Illinois would be better served doing well in other areas and then if there is a great fit go get someone from Chicago.

I don't know if Weber was going to keep his job before yesterdays game anyways, but it seems pretty clear that he's done now.

One thing I found interesting is how athletic many of the Illini are. There were role players throwing down impressive dunks. A new coach will have some pieces to work with.
