Virginia is the top seeded team. Not only did Arkansas get screwed by not hosting a regional they have to go to one of the most difficult places to play in college baseball, Arizona St. Illinios drew a tough draw at Cal St Fullerton but that was to be expected. Clemson has a tough regional with UConn and Coastal Carolina as does Oregon St with Creighton and Georgia. LSU got screwed too. They had a top RPI and play in the best conference in the country. St Johns should not be in the field. A 9th place finish in the SEC is better than a 2nd place finish in the Big east.

I picked Vanderbilt at the beginning of the year and I'm sticking with them. They have the starting pitching, offense and bullpen to win it all. UCLA will be tough with two of the best starting pitchers in college baseball in Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer. Florida and Texas also have teams capable of winning it all.

I have been following the road to Appleton. Watched a few games up there this weekend. Good stuff.

It seems the Gainesville and Fullerton regionals will be on ESPNU so we'll be able to watch the Illini game friday night. That's kinda funny.

ESPNU is DIRECTV 208, Keyser... I believe they'll have 3 straight days of coverage starting tomorrow on the road to Omaha, and the new home of the College World Series, TD Ameritrade Park, and in HD to boot.

I don't blame you, we got an absolute screw job. I hope we can pull it out, but I don't like our chances.

No I haven't, but I am curious to see what they do. Do you think they will start Baxendale tonight?

That's what I'm wondering. Do you think they trust Lynch, Fant, Moore or even Stanek enough to win tonight and hold Baxendale until tomorrow for ASU? I'd probably start Baxendale tonight to ensure they go in the winners bracket and hope for the best against ASU. This is where they really miss Davenport.

I would guess Lynch, but I don't see them doing that. You have to win today, go with the best.

I was wrong, it was Fant.

Wow. Fullerton is throwing their #2 guy against the Illini and they jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

The Cal-Fullerton coach is a student of the Ozzie Guillen School of Out Management.

What level of minor leagues would really good college teams be equivalent to? High single A ball?

The good conferences like the SEC, ACC, Pac-10 and Big 12 are probably between low A and high A. The Big 10 is equivalent to the independant leagues. Maybe.

Tyler Pill has a hell of a curveball. He should be drafted somewhere around rounds 5-7 this year.

Illinois ties it 4-4. They're a scrappy bunch. I think I even heard an I-L-L / I-N-I chant.

Wow Morgan Ensberg went back to school and got his degree after earning over $11M (per baseball reference) playing baseball. That's pretty cool.

Well, Keyser it wasn't Font's fault. The offense is not up to the rest and it has been that way all year. It is disappointing because McCann is gone, but hopefully the offense catches up to the pitchinng next year. They are going to be outstanding, I just hope we don't waste it.

Post subject:  Re: The Road to Omaha

That was a tough one yesterday but they came back and won 3-0 today so they're not dead yet. Baxendale must have really thrown well. It would be nice if the offense could put a few more runs on the board in the next game.

The Illini are up 2-1 in the 3rd.

The Illini held on to beat Kansas St 5-3. They play the loser of the Stanford/Cal St Fullerton game tomorrow.

Stanford defeated Fullerton last night 1-0. Illinois plays Fullerton at 6pm in an elimination game.

Arkansas 11 Charlotte 3. Big win, Hawger. Stanek went the distance and your boys put some runs on the board. They have another game tonight against ASU. Not sure who's throwing. Brandon Moore?

Fullerton is beating Illinois 4-2 in the 6th.

Illinois wins and now will play Stanford in about an hour and 15 minutes to try and play them again tommorow.

Holy crap. Illinois knocks out the #1 seed. The Illini have to beat Stanford twice which obviously won't be easy but they have to be proud that they knocked out a powerhouse like Fullerton.
