Post subject:  No New Year's Day Bowls

I just realized New Year's Day is going to be an NFL day this year. That probably means that most of the festivities of the day go out the window with people not going out quite as hard on January 2, which is a Monday. I usually love Jan 1, even with it's diminishment by the BCS.

My Bowl season ended with this: NU 28 Nebraska 25

Anything else by a local team is just gravy.

So you will get the NFL on Sunday and bowl games on Monday. Nothing wrong with that.

Except for those of us that have to go to work on Monday because our offices aren't cool enough to be closed on the 2nd.

I remember the last time this happened, I was going to school and we had class on the 2nd...sucked missing half the days games because of it.

Yeah that sucks. You should quit and find a job that gives you the monday off when a holiday falls on Sunday.

It was a technical/trade school...they have very few days off...and at that point in my life, school was serious business...didn't miss for anything....

...if this was when I was going to Iowa State, we would have been off well into January...and I probably would have seen class three times by the end of the month...

Did you attend there at the same time as any of these people:

Stacey Keach
Cloris Leachman
Garry Marshall
Robert Reed

I don't think there will be the same NYD party for late season NFL games. As several have said, not everyone gets off the 2nd and the next day is a work day for everyone (and the beginning of the week) so I think people will stay away this year.

It's been this way for many years now. While I'm old enough to remember when NBC Sports had the Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl & Orange Bowl ALL on the same New Year's Day, thanks to the Bowl Championship Series and their contract now with ESPN/ABC, they've spread out these matchups in recent years. As a result of the BCS contract, I don't think the BCS title game will be determined until the second week of January in New Orleans. That seems too long in my opinion.
