I dont think this was Paterno being insensitive. I think this is him trying to be PC. He thought victim mights offend some.

I read that on deadspin and immediately thought "Uh oh". I think most people understand he's an old coot...

I'm not going to slam him, but pretty much everything he's saying is cringeworthy. He obviously should have retired long ago. And if he didn't want to, he should have been made to retire. I'm sure my mom might like to drive, but I've got her keys.

Agreed.

I wrote this somewhere else but his tone when he told the reporters "Were gonna have a press conference" was very laid back.

Like "Well sort it all out"

I dont think he understands whats going on.

That's why I disagree with Spaulding that he's as guilty or maybe worse than Sandusky. If it comes to light that he actively tried to cover it up, I would agree with her. But from what we know it seems he is an old man who just doesn't understand priorities.

That's not uncommon for old people. When my dad was dying of cancer, my mom was doing everything. She had to drive all over taking him to various appointments, get his medicine, make sure my dad's parents were taken care of, etc. My grandfather's biggest concerns were getting his lottery tickets and watching "Wheel of Fortune". It's not that he didn't care that his son was sick and it's not like he was senile or anything either, he was just an old, old guy and his thoughts weren't exactly right. That's how I see Paterno.

I sure as shit hope not .... I defy anyone to even begin explaining how anyone is worse than Sandusky.

I think he's lost a lot in recent years. Look at interviews from 02 its like night and day.

I believe he was still well enough to know back then.

I don't know. Maybe I misunderstood, but that's how I read it.

I think you're right, Rod.

Spaulding wrote:
There was a whole group of people that put their organization, jobs, positions or whatever above the needs of those kids. They did protect this man, they allowed it to go on. That to me, may be even sicker. They knew the difference and they all turned a blind eye to it. Not just a few but several, and it's absolutely disgusting.

I think it is being insinuated that Sandusky doesn't know right from wrong or can't control himself. Is this accurate Spaulding?

Wouldn't say that exactly. There is no excuse for Sandusky and obviously he knew enough to hide it. I assume that any person that commits a crime of this nature has something wrong with them. They don't operate as the rest of us do, could be psychopaths or sociopaths, and they have a profile they fit. Could be something else at work. Maybe that is a way for me to rationalize or explain something so awful that I don't fully understand. All sorts of awful things should happen to him.

Because of Paterno and whoever else knew you have at least victims 3-8. They could have prevented it. Paterno doesn't seem confused, shocked, or appalled. He wasn't fooled there is no betrayal, he simply did nothing. Wives protect husbands over this shit

Think of it like this, your kid is victim #5. You tell me, I say oh yeah I knew that, I told my boss and I prayed for him/her. Hey Go Bears! You good with that? Do you feel I have any culpability? These are suppose to be the rational people. The moral ones. They let him run a fucking charity with kids and travel with kids. Sick fuckers all of them.

As dolphin said you have no idea how far this goes back or what really went on. They will never find all the victims. Some won't come forward. I hope nothing but bad things for all of them.

Was referring to KIs last statement.

Do I think there is something just as bad at work with whoever covered this up? Absolutely. I wish the law felt that way and they could be punished too.

I hear you. The rest of them are miserable fucks in their own right. But being a complete moron and asswipe isn't equal to being a .....Sandusky. The ones who knew and chose to do nothing take a great deal of blame in what may have happened to a large number of children after learning the truth. But what that sick son of a bitch did is far worse. Without him, none of this happens in the first place...

Well said. The Paterno apologizing is just poor rationalization.
