Luke Fischer attended Saturday's Indiana-Ohio State game believing he might give a verbal commitment to play basketball for the Hoosiers.

Fischer, a 6-10 post player from Germantown, Wis., had first visited Indiana in the spring and felt IU was a perfect fit. He came back in late summer and participated in an open gym setting with some of Indiana's players.

After his first experience in Assembly Hall with the atmosphere and the play of the No. 13 Hoosiers in a 74-70 victory over Ohio State, Fischer was certain he had found his college basketball home. A few hours after IU's victory, Fischer gave Hoosiers coach Tom Crean his commitment.

He is the third player to commit to IU's Class of 2013 and will be eligible to sign a letter of intent in November.

"When I was in Bloomington last spring, I just had a feeling this was the right place and I knew when I was there for the Ohio State game that nothing had changed," Fischer said. "I'm just really excited to be a part of this program. I just think it's really cool to see where the program is today and the direction it is heading. I wanted to be a part of that.''

Fischer is listed at 6-9, 200 pounds by recruiting services. Saturday night, however, when he was measured and weighed at Assembly Hall, he came in at 6-10 and 215.

"I've just been eating every chance I get and trying to bulk up," he said. "I feel like my strengths are posting up down low as well as facing up and hitting a quick jump shot over my opponent.

"My biggest challenge will be to continue to bulk up and get ready for Big Ten play.''

He said he was 6-4 as a high school freshman and grew 4 inches the following summer. He grew 2 more inches last summer.

Fischer had nine scholarship offers, including two in the Big Ten: IU and Iowa. He said he was recruited by Wisconsin but had not been given an offer.

Living 90 minutes from Madison, he said he grew up a Badgers fan and has been to several games at the Kohl Center. But the way he felt about Indiana, it would have been tough for Wisconsin to get back into the picture.

"Even if they had offered me a scholarship now, I really wanted to attend IU," Fischer said.

He is averaging 18 points and eight rebounds on his high school team that is 10-0 and ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin's highest division. He is rated as the No. 140 prospect in the nation by rivals.com.

Other IU Class of 2013 commitments: Warren Central 6-6 forward Devin Davis and Cathedral 6-6 forward Collin Hartman.
