The NCAA today stunned Ohio State University’s football program by banning it from postseason play after the 2012 season, multiple sources told The Dispatch.

The penalty means Ohio State automatically is out of the running for any bowl, or a Big Ten or national championship next year, just as newly appointed head coach Urban Meyer is wooing recruits to the Buckeyes.

Athletic Director Gene Smith said previously that while Ohio State has been declared a repeat violator that failed to properly monitor its football program, a bowl ban would be out of line with penalties handed to universities with similar violations.

Good. It won't matter much though as a deterrent as OSU will do it again and deal with the problems later.

Why has Penn St not been dealt with yet? I understand the whole "let the legal system play out" line, but isn't it very clear by now that multiple men in positions of authority within the athletic department did alot of wrong?

Interesting that Ohio St thinks it's "out of line" to lose postseason eligibility. Apparently they think cheating for seven or eight years (however long it was) only deserves a reduction of five scholarships. Ohio St got off easy compared to USC. I think USC lost 10 scholarships and two years of postseason play.

I was watching the Big 10 network when they were discussing this and talking about the Division there in, and there like for next year Wisconsin and Purdue are probably celebrating the most.

So according to these guys, Purdue will have a team next year.
