Russell Wilson reportedly looking to Bucky for transfer

Less than two weeks after his initial — and somewhat abrupt — release from North Carolina State, quarterback Russell Wilson might have a new home.

And it’s Wisconsin, of all places.

Sources on both sides have reportedly told the Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel today is that Wilson and Wisconsin have began preliminary discussions about a possible one-and-done marriage, a la Jeremiah Masoli. Like Masoli, Wilson, a redshirt junior, has already a completed his degree from North Carolina State and would be able to play immediately.

Assuming, of course, that he wins the starting job.

Or, that the Colorado Rockies, who drafted Wilson in the fourth round of the MLB Draft last summer, would even let Wilson pursue another year of football.

The Journal-Sentinel notes that Wilson is currently playing baseball with the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists, a Class A affiliate of the Rockies, whose season ends on Sept. 5. Wisconsin’s season opener against UNLV is Sept. 1.

Yeah, I’d say that’s a problem.

Additionally, Wisconsin currently only has two scholarship quarterbacks on their roster, neither of which have starting experience. Wilson, on the other hand, is a three-year starter. But what the Badger quarterbacks lack in experience on the field, they more than make up for in familiarity with the offense.

If Wilson were granted permission to leave the Tourists early, he would still only have a few weeks to pick up the offense and there’s no guarantee he would find himself atop the depth chart.

And — just a guess here — that seems like it would be kind of a deal-breaker for Wilson.

Obviously, these are just initial talks and there’s no guarantee any of this is going down without some shuffling and compromising from Wilson, the Rockies and Wisconsin. But, if this doesn’t work out, I contend there’s another school who could use Wilson’s services for a year.

Like, say, the defending BCS National Champs

I could see this working out. Wisconsin's offense is not the most difficult to understand in the world - they run the ball more than pass and the pass routes are pretty basic. It's a pro style offense.

Don't have any Wisco contacts left. You know as much as I do.

I am a Russell Wilson fan, and if it goes Wisco today, the season thought could be bigger than the Big 10 title, maybe national title.

Wisconsin always has a run game and a good defense, never the big time quarterback, the last 3 big ones were Bevell, Bollinger, and Tolzien and that's the last 20 years.

Save yourself a text message and just check twitter yourself.

It's obvious that "your guy" has simply seen that it's all over twitter.

Wisconsin makes it official. BB says Russell will "compete" for the starting QB position.

That's a good get for Wisconsin. It will be interesting to see how quickly he can adjust and contribute there. Besides Cam Newton, most of them have not had the impact that the teams hoped.

Getting Borland back helps on the defensive side.

I would say a great day for Wisconsin, now hopefully Wilson has time to learn the offense.

You look at the schedule, should start 4-0 before Nebraska comes in probably undefeatd and could get College Gameday there, but win that one, then on to IU. If 6-0, 2 tough road games at Michigan state and Ohio State, then should be 2 easy ones, Purdue at home and at Minnesota, and then road at Illinois, who knows what Illinois will be and close out at home against Penn state. Get through that, then could be another game with Nebraska for the Big 10 Championship.

The schedule is doable for a national title chance for Wisconsin and I do hope the WIlson move pays off for Wisconsin and not turn into what happened last year with Ole Miss and Masoli, missing a bowl game.

Even with Wilson this Wisconsin team is a bit worse than last years team. The whole division is worse except for maybe Indiana so they are rightfully the favorites to make the conference championship game, but the race is still pretty wide open (assuming Ohio state is allowed to win it).

IB what about Indiana makes you think they are not worse from last year?
