Apparently, Notre Dame has a seat on the NCAA playoff board. Should an independent school with a subpar football team be given this right?

Hasn't that always been the case? In all discussions about playoffs, they brought all the Conference Commissioners and a rep from ND. I got no problem with it. If you don't understand why ND is important to college football, then I'm not sure you understand college football.

They deserve it, but they also seem to be losing special treatment status with every new system.

The team has not come close to winning anything since the mid 90s. I do understand the history, but Penn State also had a lot of history until recently.

They actually make less money from television than every Big Ten and SEC team, and if it hasn't happened already the Pac 12 will pass them too.

They know what would happen to them. Remember, Penn State was a powerhouse before they joined the Big Ten. Now, even before the sanctions, they probably were the 5th best program in the conference.

Maybe someone can answer this for me, but I'm under the impression that the only sport at ND not in a conference is football.

I Believe that.. ND is weak and would be a middle of the pack team in the big ten and bottom of the pack in the SEC..I just don't like seeing the Irish play in bcs bowls only to get waxed every year.

if by sub-par you mean 1993 and previous, I'll agree...

if by sub-par you mean losing record...that hasn't happened since 2007.
