It's not happening just yet, but could the legendary home of the Boston Red Sox be hosting a college football game in the near future? According to the Boston Globe, there are early discussions about a proposed Notre Dame/Connecticut football game at historic Fenway Park. Yes, Fenway.

Even though Notre Dame announced plans last week to join the ACC for all sports except for football & hockey, the Globe reports that "UCONN officials feel the idea has merit and Notre Dame may be willing to move a home game to Boston." Currently, there are no scheduled games between Notre Dame & UCONN, but the two schools hope to play this game as soon as 2014.

While Fenway has recently held rock concerts such as Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, along with an international soccer match & the NHL's Winter Classic, the home of the Sox hasn't hosted a football game since the AFL Boston Patriots hosted the Cincinnati Bengals in 1968. The ballpark at one time had also hosted high school & college games such as Boston College, Boston University & Dartmouth.

It's not unusual for college football to be played at a baseball park. We all remember Illinois & Northwestern played a college game 2 years ago at Wrigley Field, complete with only 1 usable end zone due to safety issues. 2 years ago, Notre Dame "hosted" Army in prime time, plus Army faced Syracuse & the Orange faced Kansas State at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Although they're best known as the current home of the Yankees, the new ballpark is actually set up for football and hosts the annual New Era Pinstripe Bowl every December.

If that's not enough, Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, plays host to the Beef O'Brady's Bowl in mid December. Last but not least, AT&T Park may be the home of the San Francisco Giants, but they're also the home of the annual Kraft Foods Fight Hunger Bowl in late December.
