Alabama loss followed by an ND loss would make my weekend.

I guess we can stop asking if Alabama could beat a NFL team.

Nobody was really asking that. The one guy who did retracted his statement when everyone called him a dumbass.

It's been mentioned in at least two places I've heard.

Where? Spurrier mentioned it last week, everyone called him an idiot, and then he retracted it. Nobody respectable ever made serious claim to it.

Agreed. Only thing left to figure out is how many NFL teams Oregon would beat.

So Spurrier isn't a "respectable" source for college football information?

I don't remember. The Score shows, Bill Simmons podcasts, CBS Sports podcasts, Dave Dameshek, Rich Eisen?? I've heard the discussion a couple times. Obviously, it's a stupid statement but it has been discussed in several places. Hell, do a Google search for "Can Alabama beat a NFL team?" and several articles come up. What a pointless conversation.

If he had stuck to his guns, then no, he wouldn't be. Seriously saying a college team can beat a pro team = your sports thoughts are no longer respected.

Bill Simmons hasn't brought it up on his podcasts. M&S and B&B never entertained the idea. I can't speak for M&H. But yeah, nobody that I've ever respected has ever said it. Only fringe shock jocks, maybe. Like you said, it's a pointless discussion.
