Since basketball season is over, let's start talking about football.

I like 9 games personally. Then again, in the next 10 years they'll switch to a 13 game regular season in my opinion and then 10 would be acceptable. It kind of sucks that you alternate between 4 and 5 home games a year but it's better than playing Eastern Colorado and dominating them.

A 10 game schedule would really hurt the smaller schools that rely on paydays. You'd have to imagine that most schools would still schedule a decent opponent leaving one game left for the payday blowout games.

Also, the Big Ten is going to have a lot more night games. It's nice they are finally improving the scheduling rules. Too many noon starts for my liking.

I would love more night games... but I think the F-ing city of F-ing Evanston has some zoning crap that only lets them get away with a certain small number per year.

They should partner with a facility that never has any restrictions from the neighborhood.

Barry Alvarez: Big Ten agrees no more FCS opponents

Madison – Speaking on his monthly radio show Tuesday night, Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez shared a nugget of information that should cheer football fans who long for better nonleague games.

According to Alvarez, Big Ten officials recently agreed to stop scheduling nonconference games against FCS programs.

“The nonconference schedule in our league is ridiculous,” Alvarez said on WIBA-AM. “It’s not very appealing…

“So we’ve made an agreement that our future games will all be Division I schools. It will not be FCS schools.”

It is not clear when the agreement will take effect but the likely starting point would be the 2014 season, when Maryland and Rutgers are set to join the Big Ten.

UW is set to face one FCS team in 2013, Tennessee Tech on Sept. 7 in Madison. UW opens the season Aug. 31 against UMass, which moved up to FBS last season.

UW does not list any schedule beyond 2013 on the school’s web site.

It's too bad.

I guess Illinois can't schedule NIU anymore.
