Name your top 3 college games to bet on this weekend.

1) Cincinnati/Purdue... Take the 10.5 points cause I think Hazell's crew can put up some points and keep this close

2) Georgia/Clemson... Give the 1.5 points. Game of the week. Georgia is only 1.5 point favorites. I think they are easily a top 4 team this year and will make a statement early.

3) Louisville/Ohio U... Give. the 20.5 points. Louisville did CRUSH Florida in their bowl game and I'm not sure 20 points is enough.

Ohio has the kind of game that is frustrating to a fast paced offense. Solich has been doing a great job with that team. I would not touch that game and I'd probably lean towards Ohio if I were forced to by a late start time and a lot of beer consumed during the day.

Those are certainly not the best games of the week to play AND I hear we have an entire section designed to answer your original question

I'm not sure I've ever seen a the hype ramp up like it has for lousivlle since that game....yes they did absolutely throttle Florida, but that team did lose to UCONN and barely got by Rutgers the 2 weeks prior to that game...all of a sudden there at #9...I think Ohio has a solid chance in the game, but I could be way off....

I don't even know how you would guess what Purdue will do. I wouldn't be surprised with a 10 point win or a 30 point loss.

Not to mention that both teams have new coaches.

You could probably say that for 90% of Week 1 games.

There is no track record here though and Purdue is going to a pro style offense from a spread last year.

If you are really looking for action right off the bat, I'd think heavily about Minnesota -14 against UNLV. Gophers have their entire O line back and should dominate the tempo of that game at home.

I think you have to be essentially out of your mind to bet on a Week 1 college game. So much changes from year to year that even with the same personnel, young kids like that can make such huge strides in their game to make the prediction unpredictable.

Any perceived advantage would be based almost solely on reputation and gut-feel unless you've got tremendous access to practice insight.

The lines will never be as soft as they are in week one. They sharpen up as the season progresses.

I mean, I guess that's true. But how do you know which way they are soft. There's very little hard info.

But I'm not a gambler.

There is one line of thinking that I have seen which has been incredibly successful that says to lay points in week 1 with teams who have a clear advantage in the number of returning starters along the lines. I believe I saw Chus' Ole Miss as one team that fit that play and Bowling Green as another.

Speaking of odds, when did Vegas start offering spreads on FBS vs FCS games? I saw a post on the Iowa fan site that they were favored by 24 this weekend against Mizzou State.

It baffles me as to why one of the bigger programs hasn't come after Frank. With his background and proven capability, he belongs leading one of the powers (or likely former powers) in BCS football.
