This would draw 150k+ spectators. Not sure how they'd fit the field inside, but I'd watch for sure.

At first I thought they were going to play on ESPN's front lawn.

This is a great idea! Combine the two greatest sports in America. Between the brain-dead and the toothless I can't even imagine the TV ratings. Probably upwards of American Idol. I know, we can even have Big Rube or Clay Aiken sing the Anthem.

Bet you wouldn't be rolling your eyes if he had said Hunter Hayes instead of Aiken.

Anyone that ever played at Hanson Stadium knows what that feels like.

Old astro turf rolled over an asphalt lot.

Brutal.

Shouldn't be a problem if they can do this....

That is a pretty interesting image. I have never been to a race let alone a short track. I would have
to assume they measured the infield to make sure it was viable even though it might be tight.

I remember watching one of those Dave Despain Bristol History shows and I'm pretty sure they used to have games on the dirt infield back at the beginning of the track.

Here, I found part of it -

Quote:
Furthermore, On Assignment relays how the gridiron met the starting grid in Bristol’s infancy. Carrier used the half-mile oval as bait in 1961 in his attempt to lure an NFL franchise to the area. He built the speedway with enough room to house a football field and arranged for the facility to host a pre-season NFL game between Philadelphia and Washington. However, after losing a substantial amount of money on the game, the owners abandoned that idea and turned their focus to drag racing and eventually to the sale of the track to Baker and subsequent buyers.

My right knee just thanked you for the memory as I had to have reconstruction after my foot stuck in the turf and my knee bent inwards back in 1989.

Avoided surgery for years. Doc told me last week it's time to get my right knee cleaned out.

That field was fucking awful.
