Presbyterian is a football school? God, that's like one of those early-season classic college basketball tomato cans, like Centenary or Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Did they run out of Big Ten schools to play?

Our home schedules are weak. We will gladly play any BCS team on the road but we do nothing to try to secure good home games for our fans. This will also mark a second straight season with only 5 home games.

If we are going to play 1-AA teams we should play in-state teams. At least it will be a school our fans have heard of.

The challenge is that NIU guarantees are going to much lower than anywhere else in the major conferences since even at sell out (25K), they can get paid better to go to Indiana/Purdue/Iowa/etc and have 50K butts in seats and get a payout of 500K.

I think it's pretty hard to get a decent BCS school to agree to come to that shithole known as DeKalb.

I believe Purdue has done some 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 deals with smaller schools to make up for it.

It's going to be virtually impossible to get a Big Ten team to travel to NIU or any MAC school going forward though. A 3 game non-conference means that you need to either play a BCS team on the road with a home and home or have 3 home games.

It doesn't even have to be BCS teams. Bring in good mid-majors like Boise, Fresno, UCF, etc.

Nobody cares for Idaho, Wyoming (upcoming), Presbyterian, etc.

A school like Boise is too busy playing BCS schools before their schedule gets soft to be bothered with another mid major.

Boise usually only plays one BCS game per season. You have to go back four years ago to find the last time they played two BCS teams. They really don't schedule very hard at all.

Yes, a crappy one for the first time in 10 years.

Since 2003, Toledo has brought in Kansas, Purdue, Iowa State, Fresno, Colorado, Arizona, Boise, and Cincinnati.

So bringing in better teams is possible, it just has not has been a priority under our last two ADs. Our last AD was terrible with scheduling and i'm glad he is gone.

Also when you look at how college athletics works, football has to make money so what NIU did made sense. If you can make 1M on doing a home game at Soldier Field - you do it. How much will you make on a game at DeKalb against even a low BCS school (Kansas, Iowa State etc)?
