Bowling Green vs. NIU in Detroit. Friday, 12/6.

All of the "experts" say if NIU wins, there is no way they don't make the BCS short of major voter "fraud" among the coaches - which probably won't happen because they have to publicly release their ballots this week. The line worried me because NIU has only had one game finish as close as 3 points all year - BG's defense is good.

*I'm making my maiden journey to this game. Haven't had the pleasure of being in downtown Detroit in 10 years. Is anything left at all? Is there anyplace near Ford Field that I can stop at before the game? All I can find is Cheli's Chili bar (traitor scum) - and all I know about that place is that people have gotten killed there.

There is a Chicago style pizza place.

There's a Casino about 1-2 blocks from Ford Field that I've gone to the couple times I've gone up there. I wouldn't venture more than a few blocks from that area.

Make sure you wave so we can pick you out amongst the several hundred people who usually attend this game.

That area is weird. Bars line are around the stadium. Chelios' place is cool in the summer before Tigers games. But venture out 3 blocks and you're in desolate Chernobyl.

Should be interesting seeing that NIU is facing the best defense since Week 1 against Iowa. A Bowling Green win would not surprise me.

Both schools have sold their allotment of tickets.

I agree. I'm not feeling overly confident.

Bowling Green has a history of ruining a good NIU season.

You messed up the joke.

One row for my head, one row for the rest of the fans.

Detroit is the exception to the rule that sports venues don't create business, they just displace it. If you took away their sports district, there'd be nothing.

Greektown is near the stadium. It is a stretch of good restaurants and bars a few blocks long. Also, Adam Richmond said the best sandwich in the country is at a place in Detroit. There is an Irish bar in greektown that is good. I don't know the name but it kind of sticks out.

I wouldn't do any facepainting for this game. MAC championship games have a history of underdogs winning. IIRC NIU was lucky to come out with a win as a big favorite last year. Anyway, get comfortable with Detroit, NIU will probably be playing back there in a couple of weeks.

NIU will crush them. Two touchdowns at a minimum.

It would be so NIU to lose this game and get busted all the way down from BCS rotation to, like, Beef O'Brady's Bowl.

I've watched many MAC Championship games on TV, and each year it seems like there is about 2,000 people there, tops. I'm not exaggerating. Their "allotment" of tickets cannot be very large.

From the NIU website:

Northern Illinois University has sold out of its allotment of 3,000 tickets to the 2013 Marathon Mid-American Conference Championship game, but Huskie fans can still purchase tickets through Ford Field either in advance or at the game, NIU announced Wednesday.

Spanky, we went up to Detroit last year...it was a blast....EVERYONE goes to Cheli's before the game, I would advise heading there if you wanna pregame with fans....some also go to Hockeytown, The Old Shilling, RUB BBQ, etc.....Cheli's is nice because you can pregame there and walk to the field, be in your seat in 5 minutes....

Are you staying at the Marriot? NIU has a special friends family rate that comes out to a total of $136.......not bad, plus everyone parties there before Cheli's and after the game, including former players and such.....

For more info on what's goin on Friday, I recommend checking out the NIU Board here:

http://csnbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=468

....tons of info your probably looking for....

Thanks for the info.

I'm not staying Detroit any longer than needed, so I may just hit one of the of the establishments you've listed.

That's not as bad as I fear.

Tampa > Detroit > Boise

I can't remember if it was Mac or Spiegs back during Stanley Cup playoffs but they had a great line. Forget a hotel for a couple nights in Detroit...buy a house.

I'm not a local hick from the DeKalb area, so he doesn't mean much to me.

Besides, it's gonna be a few years before his team is in Detroit.
